Dear EBMA Members,

Wow!  The world looks different this month, so much has happened and continues to evolve almost by the hour. I sincerely hope that you and your families are well. Please take care, this is of the utmost importance.

As schools, some public libraries and bookstores close as we are all at economic risk. But some good is also happening. Communities are pulling together to ensure students in need of meals are fed on a daily basis.  Some school and public libraries are offering drive-up service for families, just call ahead and request the books you want. Many companies are offering free online resources for students to use at home.

Boston school district and many others are distributing laptops for students to take home, preparing for a 6-week shutdown.

In publishing, many, many authors including Kate DiCamillo, Lauren Tarshis, Laura Halse Anderson and more are recording books and making them available free online for students.  Macmillan has ended its ebook embargo and is returning to their previous library pricing model, even lowering prices on some titles to help libraries expand their e collections at this critical time.

EBMA has canceled our May board meeting, it will now be virtual. The September board meeting is undecided at this point. Our annual conference is still scheduled for January 11-14, 2020. We are and will continue to closely monitor travel restrictions and safety recommendations.  We will inform our members when and if a decision to cancel is made. For now, we continue to hope that we will see you all in January in Arizona.

Our personal “I Survived” list continues to grow…

Take Care,
Nancy Stetzinger
EBMA Board President
