The Cutting Edge

March 20, 2020

Here's what's happening across our Conference, at least what I've heard about. Feel free to share this with anyone!
During this unprecedented time, as Seventh-day Adventist Christians we can let our light shine by being caring, responsible citizens. We are called to think about the needs of others. I've prepared this short message of encouragement to help us stay focused on the mission of Christ. Click here to view it. Feel free to share this with others who may need to be reminded of the never-failing presence of God. Pray about how you can serve others during this global crisis. God bless you!
Sue Carlson shares a message in song for your encouragement.
What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace
"After months of study, the Manhattan church was especially thankful for the baptisms of Cynthia Arganbright, Mark Carter and Wayne Hanson last Sabbath," says Pastor George Goddard.

Pastor Michael Halfhill's plans for his Lincoln Piedmont Park congregation....
"Greeting from Honduras," says Pastor Mic Henton. "Last Wednesday the world was a different place. With governments and health organizations still supporting international travel, our College View Church filled a bus full of missionaries and sent 30 people to Honduras. Three
days ago, as Covid-19 has changed the shape of the world, the country of Honduras has locked down their boarders to all air travel until March 23. This has yet to effect our trip as we are scheduled to go fly home on March 25. The students and leaders here are in good spirits and the work continues. Please pray that the ban will lift on Monday and we will be allowed to arrive home on Wednesday. In the mean time, we are doing great work in Honduras and will continue to. Jesus will continue to be our focus and we will continue to love and serve Him," says Pastor Mic.
"Pastor Mike Mennard's plans for his Lincoln New Creation congregation....

College View Church will host a daily “Family Worship” broadcast on Facebook Live starting on Monday, March 23 at 10:00 am," says Pastor Michael Paradise. "This will be a great way to reach families stuck at home with kids out of school. Some of our parents are looking for structure and programs for their children during these unprecedented days without school. The broadcast will feature music, stories, and interaction with kids through the College View Church Facebook page," says Pastor Michael.

The Executive Committee of the Seventh-day Adventist Church voted to postpone the 2020 General Conference Session until May 2021. More info...
Chapel Oaks (KC) launched a new evangelism program two months ago using Facebook and 23 people have responded to the offer of a free book," says Reba Lucky. "The book is The Hero of Hacksaw Ridge, the story of Desmond Doss. Pastor Diego Silva provided training on a recent Sabbath afternoon. My partner, Shelly Opp and I were given a name & address of a lady who’d requested the book, so off we went. When Lisa opened the door, she got
tears in her eyes when she saw the book. Her grandson has seen the movie multiple times and loved the story of Desmond Doss. She mentioned how incredible his faith must’ve been, which was the perfect opening for me to offer her the first study guide in the It Is Written series. She took it and asked what faith he was. We told her that he was a Seventh-day Adventist. She brightened and said she had attended an SDA church that was located on the Turner Diagonal in Kansas City, Kansas with a friend when she was a child. I was pleased to be able to tell her that church had relocated to Shawnee and that was Shelly’s and my church. She wanted to know where it is and is interested in attending. Her grandson was very impressed that Shelly had actually met Desmond Doss when she was a teenager. I have had contact with her several times and pray that the Holy Spirit will work with her and the others who have received the lessons," says Reba.
"Recently at the Scottsbluff church, Max shared a story of how he as a young boy had pulled a dead tree down using a chain and a tractor," says Ivy Lunbery. "Because he was young and this was his first tree to pull down, he had not accounted for the height of the tree and when it came down on top of the tractor, God intervened and
he only suffered a few cuts, while the steering wheel was badly bent. This was the first time that Max has shared a children's story. Great story!" says Ivy.
Pastor Rod Scherencel wants you to know that Karl Haffner is rescheduled for Men’s Retreat April 2-4, 2021. "I'm excited to have him join us and know the men who attend will be challendged and blessed," says Pastor Rod.
The Conference office is closed to the public through April 3. Our staff is still be available to serve you. Please call ahead if you want food from our "tiny" ABC in Topeka. During this time of "social distancing" we request that non-employees do not stop by the office. We are here to serve you, but not face-to-face for now. Call with any needs or questions (785-478-4726).
The offering this Sabbath is for your local church budget. our faithfulness, even when we aren't having services, is still vital. Please be faithful in returning God's tithe and giving liberal offerings during these uncertain times. "A small church and school decided to start a building project. They contracted a local architect to design the project. The architect priced the construction cost at $75,000.  Click here.
During this time of where our churches are not meeting, please continue to support the mission of Christ through your tithes and offerings. This be done in many ways.

**If you know something that you think would be of interest to other Kansas-Nebraska Adventists, please let me know. I am trying to keep everyone on the "cutting edge" by sending this out each Friday.
