Occidental Community Church family,
By now I'm sure you are aware of the county-wide mandate for all of us to "shelter in place," beginning at midnight, March 18, and continuing for three weeks until April 7. With these new restrictions, churches in Sonoma County will not be able to assemble for Sunday worship services until Easter Sunday, April 12. Pray earnestly that by then the threat of the Coronavirus is lessened sufficiently so that indeed we can once again meet together for worship and fellowship.
When I think of the order to "shelter in place" for the next 3 weeks, there is no passage in Scripture more timely and more appropriate for us to meditate upon than Psalm 91:1-3 - "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2.I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.' 3.Surely He will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence."
Today, take time to read and meditate upon these verses, as well as the rest of this glorious Psalm 91, and claim God's promises. The "pestilence" David wrote about in 1000 BC was not the Coronavirus as it is for us, but in his day the threat was just as real, whatever the particular disease it might have been. And the same Almighty God who "sheltered " and protected His people under His shadow then, will do the same for us.
During these next three weeks don't allow your focus to be on the threat of the virus. Let your focus be fixed on our Almighty God! Read your Bible; listen to Christian music; pray; stay connected through email, social media, phone, etc. with others who share your faith in Christ. We will get through this time, with God's help, and we will once again be able to enjoy meeting together at church to praise and glorify God!
