Media invited to learn more about community-wide food security efforts in response to COVID-19 prevention measures
- For Immediate Release -

The Black Hills Area Community Foundation has been home to the Collective Impact Food Security Initiative since 2017. In this role of community collaborator, BHACF is working closely with our community partners on the front lines of food security efforts to ensure they have the support they need to provide safe, healthy food to area residents during this COVID-19 prevention period.

Representatives from some of our Food Security Oversight member agencies, including Feeding South Dakota and Rapid City Area Schools, will be available this Thursday morning to talk to members of the local media about their food distribution plans in the coming days and weeks. This is not a traditional news conference but will provide ample opportunity to gather important information that can, and should, be shared with the public.

Thursday, March 19th @ 10 a.m.
Black Hills Area Community Foundation Office
803 St. Joseph St., Rapid City

BHACF also has two funds available to assist our food security partners in this time of uncertainty and welcomes donations to support this overarching effort. To contribute, visit the foundation’s Black Hills Disaster Recovery Fund homepage or the Food Security Fund homepage. Donors may also send checks payable to “BHACF” to PO Box 231, Rapid City, SD 57709.

In addition to the financial support available, the Black Hills Area Community Foundation and United Way of the Black Hills are partnering to gather information about agencies’ food response efforts around the Black Hills region.  Knowing many of these agencies have limited time and resources to keep information updated, BHACF and UWBH staff are actively collecting this information, putting it into a clear and concise format, and posting it to the 211 Helpline Center’s database.  It is the intention of BHACF and UWBH to keep in regular contact with agency representatives to make sure the information remains accurate as the COVID-19 situation evolves.

For more information about Thursday’s media availability or the Food Security Initiative in general, please call the BHACF office at 605-718-0112 during regular business hours.

Thank you,
Julie Oberlander
