We are the Church!

John Allen, Senior Pastor

Hi, I’m John, and daily we are seeing changes in the way we do work, school, community, and church. For the time being, we are shifting our groups and worship to online only. As we create online groups, we will send out invites and opportunities. Weekly, we will make decisions about our worship service. The next two Sundays, March 22 and March 29 our services will be online on Facebook – this is the best way to engage – and also on our website at firstchurch.net/events.

Last Sunday we had a great response. Thank you for your support and understanding in these uncertain times. As pastor, I am committed to keep our church up and running no matter how long this social distancing lasts. Let me also assure you, I am not panicked or in crisis mode. We are adapting in every way we can to this new situation.

I do want to make a note about our giving. Without on-site worship services, our offerings last Sunday were one-third of our usual Sunday offering. If you normally give in service, please mail your usual offering to the church or go to firstchurch.net/give where you can give by credit or debit card. You can also give through the SecureGive app, or you can even set up your online banking to send automatic payments each month! If you have any questions about online giving, Jenn Magill would be glad to help you. If possible, join me in making an extra offering as we forge ahead.

We are committed to do “church” in new ways to meet the needs of our community. Pray for our church, ministers, staff, leadership, and members. Pray that God will lead us to new paths of service and community. Pray that God can use even this crazy time to bring people to Christ.

Thank you for your support and encouragement. God is good all the time. We are the Church, and the gates of Hell shall not stand against us.

Remember… “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear…” 1 John 4:16-18

P.S. I’m not a big Facebook guy, but Facebook is one of the easiest ways for us to connect as a community right now. If you have a Facebook account, make sure you’ve liked our page First Methodist Carrollton and join our groups. We have a new churchwide group as well as smaller groups for ministry areas and Sunday school classes - click below to join! If you don’t have a Facebook account, consider joining just for these next few weeks – it’s a great way to stay connected, and you can share what we’re posting to your page to encourage others who might not be part of a church family.
