What Can the Library Do to Support You and Your Students During Shelter in Place?

COVID-19 Precautions

We are making plans to provide new programs for this enforced time away from school and work. Our virtual branch is always open 24/7 for kids and adults. So don't forget to take a look. We have plans to add some new exciting events in the next week or so. Please visit regularly.

What are you doing with your students? Are you able to keep in touch virtually? Do they have assignments to keep them busy? How can the library help?

Contact us at k12@santacruzpl.org with your ideas during this unusual time.

While We Are Closed

This is the first of weekly updates from the Teacher Newsletter. Look for a new edition every week on Wednesday afternoon. And you can always share this newsletter with colleagues and parents. Interested readers can sign up for the Teacher Newsletter here. For more up to date information between newsletters, check out the Santa Cruz Public Libraries website and the County Office of Education website as well as your local school districts.

March Is Women's History Month

Take a look at the SCPL Kid's Page for our Historical Fiction Booklist
There are links to the catalog from the list. During this time of Sheltering in Place  look for titles that are in our ebook collection.
Spring Is Class Visit Season
Here's What You Need to Know

Class visits are a core program of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries. However, while schools and the libraries are closed we have had to cancel visits. We have tried to contact everyone who had a visit scheduled in March or April. Please contact us when you are back to school and the libraries reopen to schedule or reschedule your class visit. If you can't come to us at one of our branches, we will try to make arrangements to visit you in your classroom.

See you at the Library in 2020!

Let us help you help your students!

When the libraries reopen ask at your local library for  bibliographies, subject guides, other library catalogs, and databases.

Meanwhile check out the Kids' Page for Programs, Fun and Games, Homework Help, Books and Movies, and a section for Teachers and Parents. Or go to our Teen Page for Homework Help, STEAM Programs, and the Teen Self Help Collection.

Do you teach emerging readers? Suggest they read to their pets at home and then when we reopen have them check out the Tales to Tails Program . Research shows that reading aloud in a non-judgmental environment improves skills in those struggling with reading. Animals make patient listeners for your learner!
