Dear St Bedes/Mentone Tigers Community,

Over the past week the 2 leagues SBMT plays in, the SMJFL and the VAFA, have released statements relating to the current situation for COVID-19. Read their statements here: https://www.vafa.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Update-On-COVID-.docx  http://smjfl.com.au/novel-coronavirus-covid-19-update-season-delayed/

It is clear that the situation is a continually evolving one, and may change at any time, such as the recent National Cabinet (made up from Australia’s combined federal, state and territory governments) which made changes to now ensuring a limit of 100 people for non-essential indoor gatherings, a large drop from the previously stated number of 500. You can get the latest DHHS updates here: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-public-coronavirus-disease-covid-19

Currently the SMJFL season is postponed and scheduled to commence on 31 May. The VAFA season is also being rescheduled to start on 2 May. Auskick is expected to commence on 31 May as well. We will keep you informed of any changes to these arrangements.

The St Bedes/Mentone Tigers recognises that we are living through unprecedented times at the moment, and many club members are working tirelessly to keep up with the rapidly changing environment and regulations.

Members of the SBMT Board as well as the Junior and Senior Committees met last night to discuss the implications for the club through this season and beyond, from both a football and organisational perspective. There will be various groups handling the different requirements to keep the club moving forward and ensure we are ready for round 1.

Unfortunately there clearly need to be some cancelations. All scheduled SBMT events up to 2 May will no longer go ahead. We will not be able to gather and celebrate in the way we ordinarily would all that is terrific about our Tigers. We are exploring how club members can stay connected in other ways and will communicate this to our SBMT community in the coming days.

The good news is that the AFL is going ahead! So at the very least there will be some footy to watch on the tele!

Government guidelines currently allow us to use our facility, whilst abiding by the local, state and federal gathering protocols. Watch this space for opportunities to experience our new SBMT Clubrooms as soon as we are able.

In the mean time, stay connected to the club via our Facebook and Instagram accounts. (See the bottom of this email for the links.) Ensure good hygiene and practice social distancing as advised. Check in on elderly or vulnerable friends and those living alone. These are difficult times, so we encourage all SBMT club members to be as kind and as patient as possible. Together we will come out the other side and get back to celebrating footy at our fabulous St Bedes/Mentone Tigers.
