Happy Spring!
Spring is here and the flowers and trees are already blooming.  It's great that we can enjoy a walk outside, since we won't be going many other places with the shutdowns caused by the virus.  If you're like us, you're enjoying some extra time for creative pursuits and hopefully that includes screen printing!  To assist you in your creativity, we decided to offer a "Make Our Screens Go Viral" sale!  Use code VIRAL at checkout for 19% off all orders from March 19 through April 19.  Check out some new screens below as well as our other designs and custom screen options in the Etsy shop. If you've used our screens or purchased custom screens, we'd love to see pictures of things you've made. Feel free to share on our Facebook page or via email.

New Screens
We have just added 4 new screens to the shop.  Three are available in various sizes; the text screen is only one size.  New nature images include a cone flower, cherry blossoms, and a seagull.  Check out the pictures in the shop to see how they look printed.  For the cherry blossom, you can choose a positive image, negative image or both. The 4th image is text for printing on a child's t-shirt that Elizabeth made for her grandson.  Though it says "I'm two years old", the number can be changed - just send a convo or note with your order.
Tips on Taking Photos for Screens
A lot of our screen images start as photos we have taken. If you are taking photos with the idea of turning them into Thermofax screens, here are a few tips:
  • Try to photograph against a plain background – water, sky, consistent color that contrasts with subject
  • Zoom in on your subject so there is less to crop out of the photo
  • If it’s a free-standing object or something that can be “picked”, photograph against a black or white background
  • Look for objects with texture
  • If the texture is the subject, fill the frame with it
  • Subjects that have high contrast with backgrounds will be easiest to work with
Upcoming Printing Class at Artistic Artifacts
Our next Thermofax printing class is on the schedule for May 2 at Artistic Artifacts, an amazing art and sewing store located on Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, VA.  If you have not been there yet, please do go check out the shop in person if you are able or online for all their wonderful supplies as well as classes.  Our class is Thermofax Technique Sampler; in which we will create 6x8 samples of about 15 different printing techniques using various products. The pages can then be assembled into a book for future reference.   Beginner or experienced screen printers are welcome to join the fun as well as anyone who has previously taken our class. Note: depending on the status of the virus pandemic, the class may have to be rescheduled.  Check the AA website for information on schedule changes.
