What's On: Thu Mar 19 – Wed Mar 25

This week's highlights:

Look after your health, look after the health of others, wash your hands (for 20 seconds), stay at home, support small business where you can, connect with people online, take a walk, don't panic, be kind, learn a new skill, fill your mind with positive thoughts. Read the latest protective measures announced by the Mayor of Joburg here.

At this most challenging time it's not business as usual in Joburg. And while we look forward to the Post-Covid-19 era when we can once again fill this newsletter with fun and exciting public events – we must make the best of now. So we have rounded up plenty of ways for you to keep yourself busy in these days of self-isolation, social distancing or just general quarantine.

There will be a time after Coronavirus and it's up to all of us to decide its shape.

For more follow us on Instagram where we are sharing all the latest updates and news on Coronavirus in Joburg and the innovative ways local businesses are responding.

From meditation apps to our favourite shows to stream on Netflix, free online classes from Harvard University and great local podcasts, here are our tips for how to get your mind off the news and make best use of your social distancing downtime (pictured Queen Sono).
Support local restaurants
'Curbside' collection & dinner deliveries

A lot of locals are understandably feeling nervous about going out to eat at the moment. Happily you can continue to eat well and support local restaurants by ordering a delivery or a 'curbside collection'. Here's a running list of places to call and collect.
Joburg events
Postponed events in Joburg

As of Sun Mar 15 events with more than 100 attendees must be postponed until further notice. To keep you updated here's a running tally of postponed events we are tracking.

And if you're crying out for some shared cultural experiences checkout socialdistancingfestival.com for hundreds of gigs and theatre shows being streamed live online from across the world.
Nature
Where to take a walk in the park

If it is safe for you to get there, take a walk in the park, one of the best places to be in Joburg with such lovely weather. Just make sure not to gather with others. Some parks have been closed during this time – including the Joburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia – but we are keeping tabs on what's open. Find out more here.
