MICROSOFT DRIVES DISRUPTION OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST ONLINE CRIMINAL NETWORK
The Tech world was rife with news of the legal and technical actions taken by Microsoft and her partners in the last few days. The goal was the disruption of one of the world’s most prolific botnets (a network of private computers infected with malicious software and controlled as a group without the owners' knowledge), known as Necurs. It is said that Necurs has infected over nine million computers globally, to date, and it is believed that after eight years of tracking and planning, this disruption will finally put paid to the activities of the criminal masterminds who are driving this illegality.

DNSSEC ROADSHOW WEBINAR
On Friday 28th February 2020, ICANN held the AFRDNSSEC webinar. The webinar was chaired by Pierre Dandjinou, ICANN’s Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement for the Africa region
The purpose of the webinar was to receive feedback related to “impact on businesses and any technical issue encountered” from those who have implemented DNSSEC on their country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD) zones and to also get the update from those who are still in the planning process. The webinar was attended by many managers of country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD) in Africa.

ICANN COMPLETED ITS FIRST VIRTUAL COMMUNITY FORUM, ICANN 67, 7 – 12 March 2020
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) concluded the first-ever Virtual Community Forum tagged ICANN67 on the 12th March 2020.
The Forum was earlier scheduled to hold physically in Cancun Mexico but was cancelled and changed to remote participation due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19.
Göran Marby, President & CEO of ICANN, in his report to the ICANN Board towards the Virtual Forum, enumerated Key Highlights & Milestones of the organisation in 2019.

Mrs. Ibukun Abimbola Odusote Clocks 60, Retires from Active Service


Wednesday 19th February 2020 was a day of double celebrations for Rev. (Mrs.) Ibukun Abimbola Odusote, the Secretary to the NiRA Board of Trustees. While celebrating her retirement from active service from the Nigeria Civil Service, the day also allowed her the opportunity to mark her 60th birthday.
Mrs. Odusote was the pioneer administrative contact for the .ng ccTLD.  She later became one of the pioneer Board of Trustee (BOT) members of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) and the current secretary to the NiRA BOT.

VALEDICTORY/SEND FORTH CEREMONY IN HONOUR OF PROF. ADENIKE OYINOLA OSOFISAN
Wednesday, 4th of March 2020 marked another memorable day in NiRA as a member of the NiRA Board of Trustees’ (BOT), Professor Adenike Oyinlola Osofisan had a Valedictory/Send forth Ceremony celebrated in her honour at the Distance Learning Centre of the University of Ibadan, Oyo state. The ceremony, which also marked Prof. Osofisan's 70th birthday, was organised by the Department of Computer Science of the University and Doctoral students of Prof. Osofisan.
Representatives from NiRA who witnessed the event included two members of the NiRA Board of Trustees, Dr. Chris Nwannena and Mr. Shina Badaru and staff from the NiRA Secretariat, Mrs. Edith Udeagu, Mr. Ikechukwu Ezeji, Mr. Taiwo Oyeyemi and Mr. Dele Awotunde. Members of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the university community and family members were present at the event.

AS THE WORLD GOES ONLINE, WORKING REMOTELY
The CoronaVirus (official name: COVID-19) epidemic has been labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. The virus is reported to have originated from Wuhan in China. As of the 17th of March 2020, more than 198,177 people in at least 165 countries had been infected with COVID-19. In order to protect people and curb the spread of this dreaded infection, there is ongoing global education and awareness about the virus, its spread, advice on crowd movements/gathering, border closures in many countries, limited international travel, work from home directives by countries, organisations etc.
