The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) Board of Directors would normally meet in March - that meeting has been cancelled and rescheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.

Trails, conservation areas offer scenic nature locations to get active outdoors during pandemic
Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) trails and properties remain open to the public. Field services staff are doing spring trail inspections and maintenance earlier than normal this year to help provide safe areas for hikers.
“Walking outside is proven to provide mental and physical health benefits,” said Denise Iszczuk, Conservation Educator with Ausable Bayfield Conservation. “Local trails and conservation areas offer a chance to keep a safe social distance and still have fun, enjoy nature and the outdoors, explore, and to get active.”
When outside, people should stay away from watercourses this time of year, Iszczuk said. The cold water is dangerous and may be moving swiftly. “Also, stay away from ice-covered ponds, lakes and the Lake Huron shoreline,” she said. “Please remember to check abca.ca for current flood messages and water safety messages.”
Conservation educators at ABCA encourage local residents to stay active in the great outdoors while still practicing safe social distancing. (Persons who are self-quarantined may explore their own farms and backyards.)
(As people make personal decisions about outdoor activity and any activity, and as they decide what's safe for them and their children and others, they should consult updated websites for the current local, provincial, and federal public health agencies who are the authorities providing and updating guidance and recommendations about what is safe and what is not safe during the current pandemic.)

Denfield-area couple enjoys nature in wetland they created
Ruth and Greg Strapp are two of the area’s landowners enhancing wetlands or making other stormwater management improvements with grant support and technical expertise from a local wetlands program. They see plants and animals in the wetland they don’t see anywhere else on their property.
“We’ve seen things here we’ve never seen before in the 40 plus years that we’ve lived here,” according to Ruth. “It’s a constant source of entertainment. There’s always something new to learn from nature and the wildlife that have moved in here.”
