  • COOVID-19 Case in the City
    The City's first confirmed case of COVID-19 has been announced (news release). It is a resident of The Kensington, an assisting living facility. Fairfax Health, The Kensington, and the City are working together and in full support of the contact investigation to prevent the spread.   • Farmers Market Suspended This Saturday; Stay Tuned for Decision about Future Saturdays
    The City is suspending the Farmers Market this weekend, Saturday, March 21. The City is awaiting further guidance from the Commonwealth regarding mass gatherings and food sources. Safety is the City’s number one priority, and we will notify the public as soon as a decision is made about the March 28 and future markets.
     
  • Mental Health Resources
    Posted to homepage of www.fallschurchva.gov: Mental Health Resources (under "Guidelines, Restrictions & How to Stay Healthy). These services are based in Fairfax County but available to all City of Falls Church residents. (Direct link.)

Is it safe for my child to play on local playgrounds?


City playgrounds are still open, however, you should be aware of the risks so you can make an informed decision for your family.
  • The City playgrounds are not cleaned by City crews. None of the surfaces are disinfected -- including the hard surfaces.
     
  • Current guidance from Governor Northam is to not be in groups larger than 10 people.
     
  • Current guidance is that every human should stay 6 feet away from others.

City Services

  • Core Service Counters Open 9:30am to 4pm, Monday through Friday
    The City Government is operational, but only core services offered at City Hall: Building Permits, Treasurer, Commissioner of the Revenue, and Housing & Human Services. The majority of City Hall is closed to public.
     
  • Go Online!
    A number of City services are available online:
    • Online payments for personal property tax bills, real estate tax bills, parking tickets, general bills for special trash pick-up and false alarm fees, FCCPS tuition payments and facility rental payments: www.fallschurchva.gov/Pay. 
    • Online Vehicle Registration forms: www.fallschurchva.gov/VehicleReg. You will be mailed a temporary decal when you complete the online registration.
    • Online Voter Registration, Request for Absentee Ballots and to check your Polling Place: www.elections.virginia.gov.
       
  • As Scheduled
    Trash, recycling, and compost are on as scheduled. Special collections available.
     
  • Closed
    The Library and Community Center are closed to the public. The Library has a number of online resources for eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies, magazines, and more!
     
  • Courts
    The Arlington County and City of Falls Church General District Court has postponed all non-jailable traffic cases through March 31. Criminal trials and preliminary hearings are now status hearings. Subpoenaed witnesses are released. Arraignments and bond motions will be heard. Call the Clerk’s Office at (703) 248-5096 for your new court date or more information.

    The Arlington County and City of Falls Church Circuit Court has postponed all jury trials and released witnesses from subpoenas through March 31. Other hearings and sentencing dockets are also postponed. Arraignments and bond motions will still be heard. More here.
     
  • City Employees
    All City employees who are able to work from home are doing so. A number of employees have been redeployed to help staff the City's Public Information Line, 703-248-5200, and help with other communication and information efforts.

What is a contact investigation?

You’ve probably heard the term “contact investigation” as a result of all the news about the coronavirus (COVID-19). The aim in doing a contact investigation is to prevent disease spread.

If a resident in the City of Falls Church tests positive for COVID-19, the Health Department will conduct a contact investigation, which means that health professionals reach out to anyone who has been in close contact with an individual diagnosed with COVID-19.

Barbara L. Downes, communicable disease epidemiology manager with the Fairfax County Health Department, explains contact investigations in this video.
 

If you have had close contact with anyone who is confirmed to have COVID-19 infection and you have symptoms, you should contact your health care provider and they will assess your health and determine if you need to be tested.

City Events and Meetings

  • The City posted a Public Meeting & Gathering Guidance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City is following this guidance for its events and encourages community groups and businesses to do the same.
     
  • City events, programs, and classes through Recreation and Parks, the Community Center, the Library, and all other departments are cancelled.
     
  • City meetings for Council and boards and commissions will take place only if they are essential.

  • A decision about the Sunday, March 22 Town Hall meeting on the Budget and the City Council meeting on Monday, March 23.
     
  • Information on what City restaurants are offering To Go orders. A list will be posted to the City's homepage this week, www.fallschurchva.gov.
