How to Zoom Worship 101!

Dear folks,

It has come to my attention that folks might need a little extra help to get ready for worship on Sunday morning via Zoom. Here are some handy instructions regarding our Zoom worship!

Our Worship Services for the next several weeks will be at 10 a.m. on Sunday via Zoom.  Pastor Laura will open the window and be “hanging out” before the worship service at 9:45 a.m. to have any pre-meeting chats and questions, and testing out Zoom that may be needed… or if you are excited and want to see each other!

If you have never used Zoom before, please explore the site, and download the app on your computer (preferred) or smartphone/ ipad (also works) here:
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-Joining-a-Meeting

From our experience this week, we have found that Computers tend to work better, and are preferred, because it is easier to use the chat function. I anticipate using the chat function often as part of group facilitation on zoom, including sending folks “worship attendance” and prayer request check in google docs. We also recommend that if there are multiple members of the household, that you all gather around the same device, placing the device (or sitting in front of it) so it is angled for folks to be able to see your whole group.

If you think you might need extra Zoom support before the meeting, after testing it out via the link above, please join us at 9:45 am as mentioned above. If you are having connection issues you can text me at 971-678-7840.

The zoom link we will use for worship is here:
BY VIDEO CALL (on your computer or device - tablet or phone):

https://greaternw.zoom.us/j/929581078
Meeting ID: 929 581 078

BY PHONE (Yes, regular, old telephone!)
Call:        1 301 715 8592 US
     Or      1 253 215 8782 US
Meeting ID: 929 581 078
This works just like a regular old phone call. Dial the number, enter the meeting ID, and join us by phone.

Please:

  • Be in a place with strong internet, and few distractions, as you are able.
    • If your internet is shaky, then you can call in on a phone in addition to the video.  How this works is in the zoom window, there is a tiny up arrow ^ next to the MUTE/UNMUTE mic icon at the bottom left corner.  You can switch your audio from the computer, to your phone, by clicking here and dialing in as the pop up window instructs.
  • The norm in Zoom rooms is often to be muted unless you are speaking, as especially with as many people as we will have online, the background noise adds up!  I have enlisted some staff to co-host with me and will be doing some of the muting and unmuting on our end.
  • Be in a place where you are able to use video on your device. Especially as we are not able to see each other like we typically do, a lot is gained in being able to be “face to face". If you can't join us on video, please know that you are welcome to join us via telephone as well.
  • Utilize the unique Zoom meeting ID number/link that is sent out for Worship, Church Council, Bible Study etc. We wouldn't want you to be logged in to a Church Council meeting and have no one else there because we are gathering for worship!
  • Be present with us throughout.  It’s often tempting to multi-task when doing a Zoom meeting, and we are respectfully requesting that you be as present as you can be, especially given this unexpected shift.

Thanks, and I look forward to “seeing you” in worship on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.!!

~ Pastor Laura
