California's K-12 education infrastructure has had to quickly pivot to support student learning at home. The K-12 Online Content Project and the content providers are ready to help district staff implement remote learning credentials.

Help Desk Support Info Sent To Districts and Charters
California State Librarian Greg Lucas emailed every district superintendent and charter school lead earlier this week with information to help staff get set up with remote access to Britannica School and Escolar, TeachingBooks, and ProQuest's suite of resources. Here's a part of what he said.

"These “online libraries” support your students, teachers and librarians across a wide range of subjects. There’s more information at the K-12 Online Content project....

"Each of the content providers offers Help Desk Support. The State Library can also provide assistance.

You can see the full email that went to the superintendents here (the charter school version is identical): https://mailchi.mp/2af8ec988cc6/home-access-for-k-12-content-for-students-provided-by-the-california-state-library

Remote Access Credential Questions - Britannica and TeachingBooks
For districts that have set up their accounts, the access information can be obtained by librarians and other educators by asking staff at Britannica and TeachingBooks directly. Contact the support numbers above for quick information.

Setting up ProQuest Streamlined Access Credentials
ProQuest's access set-up is a bit more complex because of the number and nature of their resources. If you are the lead administrator for your account and need to streamline the access credentials (districtname/districtcodes), take a look at this Set-Up Tutorial Video that ProQuest trainer Lindsey Skaggs created. Also got to the ProQuest LibGuide for California for the most current updates.

Training Videos for Teachers and Students
Suddenly have a lot of interest in how to use the K-12 Online Content for education? Send them to a roadshow -- the one that happened in San Diego last September. The videos of the training are up still and available to view (courtesy of the San Diego County Office of Education).

Additional Ease of Access - Coming Soon
The content providers want to make access to their resources as streamlined as possible for stressed-out families and educators. We are working on the IT/web infrastructure for that. Please encourage others to sign up for this newsletter for updates.

Share this with someone (You can grab the text, too)
Getting the word out about these educational resources is more important than ever. Please share this eNewsletter with others, and encourage them to sign up. We will be sending updates, open-source suggestions and other information on a regular basis (likely once a week).

And feel free to copy/paste text for your own outreach to teachers, staff and others. Just make sure you get the URLs, credit the State Library somewhere ... and fix any typos or grammar problems that come about from working too fast. Comments and suggestions are always welcome and may be sent to Marybeth.barber@library.ca.gov.
