CATCHING UP WITH PERELANDRA  COLLEGE

We founded Perelandra College seventeen years ago believing online delivery gave educators the ability to serve people without causing them years of debt. We had no intention of enticing anyone to choose us over traditional institutions, only to offer an alternative that could fulfill some traditional requirements, such as instruction in writing, for a small fraction of the cost to the student.

At the time, and for several years thereafter, traditional educators generally scoffed at the whole notion of distance learning. But gradually some of them observed that for-profit institutions were charging as much for online as for classroom learning and recognized the profit potential, as it appeared students weren't paying for the classroom experience but for the credit toward a degree that could increase their future earnings.

Traditional institutions such as Arizona State University and Southern New Hampshire University have become mega-colleges by following the online for-profit model. And now, while we face this Coronavirus, even elite universities are going online, and from what I  read, they certainly don't intend to reduce tuition. And why should they, if they are essentially vocational schools and the online classes give the same benefit?

I grew up thinking education was supposed to make us wise and not necessarily rich. Strangely enough, some of us still think that way, which is one reason Perelandra College keeps tuition to an absolute minimum.

HELP SET PRISONERS FREE?

Perelandra College has begun sending free self-study classes to incarcerated people, which is something of a problem because it costs money we don't have. Should anyone care to help us with that, look here.
