Illness vs. Wellness

What is the difference between illness and wellness? Illness begins with ‘I.’ Wellness begins with ‘We.’ See? If we use the ‘I,’ we are ill. If we use the ‘we,’ we are well. Make your life a little more selfless. Don’t always think of you, you, you. ‘We’ brings wellness. So embrace everybody: Sarvesham Swastir Bhavatu. Sarvesham Shantir Bhavatu: May all be happy; may all be peaceful.

God bless you. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.”    Sri Swami Satchidananda

Satchidananda Ashram–Integral Yoga International Update
The Ashram and Integral Yoga Centers are now temporarily closed. However, it's our intention to continue to bring you inspiration, teachings, and a supportive community connection by taking Integral Yoga online for all to access. Our media team has spent the past week putting our hearts and minds together to creatively come up with how we can best support you as we find our way through this time of great challenge and uncertainty. It is our hope that our new online offerings will give you a vital resource to help you thrive in body, mind, and spirit during these difficult times. As we know, times of crisis can be dangerous—and they offer us opportunities for transformation. Wishing you peace and joy, love and light as well as hope and good health.
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

Again and again, people ask me, “Why is there suffering? How can I avoid suffering?” My answer is, “You cannot.” If anything has to happen, it will happen. Think, All right, let it happen. I am bold. What’s the use of being afraid of it? I’m not going to be able to stop anything that is meant to happen. That really takes a lot of faith. If you have that kind of faith, you don’t have to be afraid of anything. That doesn’t mean that you should not be careful. Be careful, but don’t be afraid.... Mother Nature itself is a factory. We are all being rubbed and scrubbed and chiseled and cut and filed...  MORE

Larry Brilliant (a devotee of Neem Karoli Baba and co-founder, with Ram Dass, of Seva Foundation) doesn’t have a crystal ball, but says we can beat the novel coronavirus—but first, we need lots more testing. Fourteen years ago, Brilliant, the epidemiologist who helped eradicate smallpox, spoke to a TED audience and described what the next pandemic would look like. Now the unthinkable is here, and Brilliant, the Chairman of the board of Ending Pandemics, is sharing expertise with those on the front lines.  MORE

In this short video, Swami Satchidananda addresses the fear expressed during another health crisis—AIDS. He said that no matter what the disease or condition we face, "The fear of the disease is worse than the disease itself. Many people lose their life because of the fear. Not because of the disease." These words of inspiration, wisdom, and comfort, from a world renowned and beloved Yoga master apply as much today as they did in the 1980s.

In the midst of all the change, where is the happiness that we are seeking? Raja Yoga provides an answer: Our essential nature is that supreme happiness. It’s as if we are looking for our glasses, while all the time they are perched on top of our head.... We forget our true nature, and then we look for external things to make us feel better, which only perpetuates the problem. First of all, we can never find lasting happiness this way because everything external is subject to constant change.  MORE

In this video satsang recently recorded at the Integral Yoga Institute of San Francisco, Swami Ramananda (Integral Yoga senior monk and center head) offers words of comfort, inspiration, and wisdom for our times. As one viewer commented, "Thank you for reminding us who we are and what we are here for."
