The Friendship Center has always represented resilience and unwavering resolve. Out of an abundance of caution, The Friendship Center has suspended programming due to the Covid - 19 Coronavirus pandemic. While we can’t be together physically, we continue to serve and be served by our community. We are continually holding each other in our thoughts and in our hearts. As an act of love and compassion, the food staff and volunteers continue to prepare breakfast and lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays to be delivered to the homes by our dedicated van drivers. We are grateful for the commitment of our friends at The Friendship Center and for the opportunity to continue being a part of the lives of our friends.
Before news of the pandemic stalled our plans, we were busy with all of our normal activities around the center. In February, we took two groups to vote in the Presidential Primary election and later in the month we trekked to the MLK Center to celebrate and remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On February 28th, our friends at St. Anne’s hosted a fun night of dancing, music, and of course, eating! We literally danced the night away. We are so grateful to Leigh and the rest of our friends at St. Anne’s.
While the necessity of sacrificing our time of togetherness this season has been difficult, we have seen the threads of faith, hope, and love continuously flowing in our community. Earlier this month, we were blessed by the news of the birth of Rev. Ashley and Megan’s daughter. We are so thankful for new life in the midst of uncertainty. The birth of a baby is a blessed reminder that something new and wonderful is always just around the corner.
We eagerly anticipate the return to our blessed chaos at The Friendship Center. The morning buzz in the fellowship hall and Christine’s diligent and daily reminders when it’s time to play bingo will be like an eagerly anticipated resurrection of our physical connection to each other.
When we reopen, on Tuesdays and Thursdays you'll find us here at 737 Woodland Ave. from 9am-1pm. You're also welcome to join Holy Comforter for church and meals on Wednesdays at 6:30, and Sunday at 10:30. Below you'll find a calendar of upcoming events, and you're invited to all of them! Come join us. Come and be a friend, we're waiting for you!
