tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🏡 Getting through it, in the most millennial way possible.
Aka a checklist for surviving a self-quarantine with how to stay healthy, keep your cool, and finally convince your parents to stop going outside.

💻 Zooming in. No need to cancel the your book club meetings or girls' nights. Embrace the weirdness of the situation and
other tips for hosting the perfect virtual hangout to forget that you're virtual at all.

🍋 Stress baking
a happy, bright lemon cake topped with fluffy cream cheese frosting. Buttery, moist, and serves a pucker that will wake your senses right up to Spring. #noms

🧖‍♀️ Binge-watching and masking. Like wine and cheese,
every TV show and beauty mask has its own pairing. Our personal pick: Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu + Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. #SelfcareSunday

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

LIFESTYLE  For when there's more good news to enjoy ~ From koala birthday party invites to boosts in foster applications. "Faced with an empty home during an extended period of social distancing, The New York Times reports that people are opting to foster or adopt pets in increasing numbers. The article notes organizations in New York City, Kansas City, and Dallas have received an influx of requests to help shelter animals. 'A lot of people are facing prolonged periods of time at home and inside,' Eileen Hanavan, director of the foster and engagement program at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, told the Times. 'They want companionship and to not feel alone during this unsettling time, and it is benefiting our animals directly.'"

CAREER  For when setting up the home office was a whole thing ~ If you're rolling your eyes at another 'Best WFH' guide, consider this one on how to work from home most chaotically. "On getting dressed: 'Experts' strongly suggest starting your day as you normally would by putting on 'outside clothes' to trick your brain into thinking that you're 'a functional member of society.' That's malarkey. They really want you sitting up in your living room, watching The Kelly Clarkson Show in a bra or a tie? Or both? Grow up! Literally do not even think about getting dressed until about 2 p.m. and then put on your prom outfit. Walk around your house in it like Miss Havisham. Stand by the window ominously so your neighbors think your place is haunted. Really lean into it. The only relationship you should have with professional attire is aimlessly ordering a bunch of it online so you can give yourself a little fashion show later in the week. It's important to set a schedule for yourself."

CULTURE  For when the internet used to be fun ~ Take a break from the influencers and reset your Tumblr password. Let's bring back the simpler days of blogging and vlogging for the sake of it. "Save for the lightning pace at which our feeds are refreshing, the current moment feels like the days the internet was fun, when we posted just to post—without agendas, attempts to monetize, or any real need for social media clout ... By this, of course, I mean the boom days of Xanga and BlogSpot and LiveJournal, when anyone could make an account and post pretty much anything just for the sake of posting it. Early memes lived on YTMND, without the sense that they'd turn into marketing strategies. People weren't sharing their outfits and photography to become influencers, because those didn't exist yet. A lot of writing, creative and personal, was done without the goal of trying to get paid for it. You just shared it all online, because you felt like you could."

FUN  For when you should put yourself first ~ Happy birthday, Aries! This is how your fellow signs will thrive during your fiery season. "Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, so this next month is all about starting new projects and beginning to work on your own personal goals—basically, it’s all about you ... If you take a minute to pause, plan, and focus on what you’re doing, you can make major constructive changes to your life, your relationships, and your job. Keep the hotheaded attitude to a minimum and take advantage of Aries’ can-do, motivated nature, and you’re def going to kill it this month!"
