Laudato Si' Week

Pope Francis has called on Catholics to celebrate Laudato Si’ Week to mark the 5th anniversary of his encyclical, On Care for Our Common Home. The week will run from 16 to 24 May. In his announcement, the Pope renewed his call for Catholics to take urgent action to respond to the ecological crisis we are all facing. The Vatican’s Dicastery for Integral Human Development is sponsoring Laudato Si’ Week which is being facilitated by the Global Catholic Climate Movement and Renova+. A report on the Pope’s announcement is at:

A web site is available for you to register your interest in one or a number of possible activities including the conduct of an energy audit or reviewing the ecological responsibility of your investments to holding a service during the week. Consideration is being given to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the information and resources being developed. The web site is at:

Earth Hour

As in previous years, Earth Hour will take place on the last Saturday of March, 28 March. Everyone is invited to take a simple action to show your support for stronger action on climate change for the sake of the earth and all who live on it. The simple action is switching off all your lights for 1 hour between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM. The Earth Hour web site has lots of resources you can use. You can also register your interest on the site. Why not make it a time of prayer or an opportunity to read some of Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’? You might also use the time to send an e-mail to your State or Federal MP calling for stronger climate action in Queensland and Australia. You will find more information at:

7 Weeks for Water

The World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network has produced Lenten reflection resources focussed on water, 7 Weeks for Water. The focus for this year’s reflection is the scarcity of water in Pacific countries. These resources can be used as part of your Lenten time of prayer and reflection or at any time during the year. They are available at:

World Water Day

Sunday 22 March is World Water Day. This year’s theme is the links between the availability of water and climate change. You can find out more information and ideas for action at:

Lenten Daily Food Reflection

A part of our response to the Pope’s call to care for our common home should be to live more simply, to consume food in moderation and without waste and to share from our abundance with others. NCR is publishing Lenten Daily Food Reflections to help you to reflect on this important part of your journey of ecological conversion. Take a look at:
