CANCELLED

By now, many of you have already heard of the cancellation of NPC20 in Houston due to the COVID-19 pandemic. THANK YOU to the local host committee, speakers, mobile workshops, and countless volunteers who have helped make this happen. The Houston Section Board will be meeting shortly to discuss how we can make some of the tours, workshops, and sessions available to our members. Below is the response from APA National regarding cancellation and where to direct questions.

Registered attendees have the option of receiving a full refund or maintaining a credit with APA that can be applied to other programs, services, or membership renewal through September 30, 2021. We'll follow up soon with additional information on future online learning opportunities that will facilitate the same high level of professional development for planners and the planning community that you've come to expect from APA.

As you focus on meeting the needs of your communities, we will turn our attention to the substantial challenge of keeping APA and the planning community strong in a rapidly changing world. We'll have more to say about this in the coming days.

We know this is a trying time for everyone — not just professionally, but also personally. On behalf of the APA Board of Directors and staff, we thank all of you for your patience and support as we navigate the complexities of this unprecedented event. We are especially grateful to the NPC Planning Committee and our local partners in Houston; please know we share your disappointment and honor your contributions.

National Census Day is April 1

The 2020 Census is here! Every 10 years, the census counts how many people are in our community to decide how much federal funding and representation we should receive. Households begin receiving census invitations in the mail this month. The nine questions will decide how federal funds are distributed to communities across the nation over the next decade. It will also decide how representation will be distributed based on population.

A complete and accurate census count is critical. Census results show where communities need new schools, clinics, roads, and other services benefiting families, older adults and children. They help decide federal funding for disaster recovery, mental health services, medical benefits programs, education programs, and much more. When you’re counted in the census, you’re helping to build a better community and a stronger Gulf Coast region.

Responses to the census are completely confidential. As required by law, they cannot be shared with anyone, even other branches of government. Completing the census is easy! Fill yours out in 10 minutes to claim the most for your community. The census can be completed in more than 13 languages online, by phone, or by mail.

Visit 2020census.gov to learn more about the 2020 Census. Say YES to Census 2020, and help us shape the next 10 years for the Gulf Coast region. You deserved to be counted!
