Dear School Directors,

As you probably heard by now, today, Governor Inslee expanded his school closure order to all K-12 schools statewide. They will close by Tuesday, March 17, and will remain closed through at least Friday, April 24.

In light of this development, WSSDA is developing two tools for supporting school boards. First, a model resolution to help streamline your immediate work. (Download the resolution.) Second, some recommendations for school board members on communicating during an emergency.

On Monday, look to your inbox for the communications recommendations. Additionally, we plan to share information about a weekly online forum set up to let school board members share ideas, solutions, and receive new information. Details on how to call in and participate, along with dates and times, will be provided Monday.

We expect more operational guidance to come from OSPI very soon. Due to ongoing developments, we will begin sending our eClippings service on weekends in addition to weekdays. Any new guidance that comes out, potentially over a weekend, will be shared via eClippings.

Lastly, here is the information we emailed yesterday. That email contains guidance provided by the Attorney General’s office, as well as other resources. The information from the AG’s office will help ensure you comply with the Open Public Meetings Act while holding the meetings that are necessary during these unusual circumstances.

As ever, thank you all for your leadership. WSSDA will continue to do everything in our power to support you and help all of us navigate the challenge presented by the coronavirus.

Sincerely,
Tim Garchow
