News from GDS Church

We are delighted to welcome you this Sunday in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you are a visitor, please make yourself known to the welcome team or the minister.

Our service will be led by our Minister Rev. Peter Barber, supported by the Ministry & Worship Teams. Today our theme is Jesus' Teaching on Prayer.

Events for your diary

Monday 16th March 1:30pm. The Fellowship in  GDS Gorgie:
We welcome ladies and gentlemen to our friendly weekly meeting, where we share in worship, have a cup of tea and goodies and a chat, and enjoy a variety of speakers and entertainers. Please do join us and bring along a friend! This week, we will hear from Red Dot Radio.

Wednesday 18th March, 7:00pm. What's Happening in GDS Gorgie?:
For the answer, come along to the large hall at GDS Gorgie at 7pm on Wednesday, 18th March and find out. This is an important date on the Gorgie Dalry Stenhouse Church calendar, and all members of our congregation will be made very welcome.
There will be updates and information, opportunities and possibilities relating to Gorgie, Saltyard and Diadem. Come and hear about the highlights of last year, and with God's guidance, the plans for the year ahead. (There will be tea and coffee too!)

Thursday 9th April, 7pm. Passover Meal in GDS Saltyard:
Please let us know if you wish to attend the annual Passover Meal by contacting the church office. Please also let us know if you have any dietary requirements. Please note that this event is only really suitable for children of secondary school age and above.

Sat. 11th April, 10am to 12 noon. Hot Cross Bun Family Event in GDS Gorgie:
Families and volunteers wanted to come and explore & celebrate the Easter story so far by making Hot Cross Buns, decorating eggs for rolling on Sunday, crafts  with family friendly reflection story. Everyone spread the word and invite families along! Volunteers needed for set- up from 9.30am and clear up till 12.30pm, hosting activity tables, welcome, refreshments. Sign up soon via Bettina.

Housegroups are open to new members and we encourage all regular members of the congregation to consider joining one.

Church Choir:
The choir will meet to rehearse once a month on Sundays, at Saltyard from 5pm-6pm. Our next practice is Sunday 29th March.

Coffee Morning:
You are warmly invited to join us at our weekly open-door Coffee Morning in the Small Hall at GDS Gorgie on Wednesdays from 10am-11am for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. The Coffee Morning Team look forward to seeing you there.

Craft Supplies Requested!:
 Bettina would be grateful to receive long kitchen roll or foil cardboard tubes and plastic tubs or trays (thoroughly washed margarine or fruit punnets ideal) required for children's crafting projects. There may be a prize for correct guesses as to what they will be used for! Please bring along by Sunday 29th March. Many thanks.

Invitation:
‘Catch-up Cake' for young families & Mums Moments alumni. Sunday's 29th March & 5th April directly after the service in the Youth Room for quick cuppa, cake & ideas of how we can support you, while littlies play in the Count Room with creche leaders if required. Come and tell us how, when and where we can meet up, help out or share life as part of the Church family. Norda & Bettina

Treasurer’s Report:
Please support the work of the church through your offerings. After 9 weeks the average collection was £640 per week compared to £676 in 2019. We received £2,439 by standing order in January 2020, compared to £2,412 in January 2019.

We meet

For Corporate Worship
  • GDS Gorgie, 190 Gorgie Road on Sunday mornings at 11am
  • GDS Saltyard, 158 Dalry Road for Cafe Church on Sunday evenings, meeting at 6pm for a 6.30pm start

For Prayer

  • On Tuesday through Friday between 12.15 and 12.30 pm in the Saltyard prayer room
  • The Prayer Room at Saltyard is available for individual prayer during Saltyard opening hours
  • On Sunday mornings from 10.15 - 10.45 in Gorgie
  • Once a month for prayer breakfasts held for men and women in Saltyard
For coffee 

Saltyard, our outreach and coffee shop in Dalry is open:
  • 9am – 4pm on Tues – Fri
  • 10am – 4pm on Saturdays
It is a welcoming space for you to enjoy meeting with friends, entertaining children and being a witness on the high street

On Wednesdays, we also meet for our Wednesday coffee in Gorgie from 10am
