COVID-19 Update and Resources for Pemberton Businesses.

The Pemberton + District Chamber recognizes this a challenging time for the community and local businesses. We are committed to sharing timely updates and information in an effort to reduce the risk and spread of COVID-19 and provide you with resources to keep your business running. We continue to communicate regularly with the Village of Pemberton.

The March 13, 2020 update from Vancouver Coastal Health advises that while community transmission is not widespread in B.C. and the risk remains low, it is increasing.

Prevention
The Village of Pemberton encourage residents to take usual precautions to prevent cold and flu viruses from spreading.

Here are some quick tips to remember:

  1. Practice excellent hygiene, wash hands frequently and avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
  2. Practice social distancing – refrain from unnecessary gatherings or close contact with others in public. Consider additional social distancing measures.
  3. If you have symptoms of a cold, stay home. Do not go to work.
  4. If you are feeling unwell and exhibiting any symptoms including fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, and headache, call 811.  They will provide an assessment, up-to-date information and next steps/direction.
  5. Follow the advice from Vancouver Coastal Health (vch.ca) and the BC Center for Disease Control (www.bccdc.ca) regarding getting tested. This is updated on a daily basis.
  6. If you are in distress, call 911, or call the nurse at the Pemberton Health Care Centre on 604-894-6633 for advice on being seen at the ER urgently. Please do not attend the Medical Clinic Offices or the Emergency Department directly without calling first.
We urge you to check Vancouver Coastal Health’s and the Centre for Disease Control’s websites for regular updates. The Village of Pemberton will also continue to provide updates and recommendations from Vancouver Coastal Health at www.pemberton.ca and www.facebook.com/villageofpemberton.

Prevention Resources for Businesses

Prepare
Some of the things businesses need to plan for include:
  • Staff absences due to personal illness, ill family members, looking after children if schools close, feeling of safety being at home etc.
  • Disruption to essential services like information, telecommunications, financial services, energy supply, and logistics
  • Disruption to supply of necessary materials or contractors
  • A major increase or decrease in demand for products and services
  • Cancellation or disruption of travel and cross-border movement of people and goods
  • Cancellation of public meetings or gatherings like sports events, concerts or religious services
  • Impact on the trade status of Canada, or of our trading partners
  • Increased public fear that causes citizens to avoid public places, including front line retail and tourist–related attractions, restaurants and leisure businesses

Prepare Resources

Assist
Consider how you can support your immediate community through a potential outbreak, and know how to assist an ill family member.

  • Offer and provide support to employees and coworkers who are at home
  • Consider whether your organization can provide goods or services to assist those in self-isolation (ie: grocery delivery, online or telephone counselling, internet services)

Assist Resources:

This is a rapidly evolving situation, and we encourage you to stay informed, practice caution, and educate staff and family members when needed.
