March 2020  FTL Update from Michelle Sessoms

These Are Interesting Times:
An Update from Michelle in Africa

Casablanca, Morocco

March 14, 2020

Dear Friends,

I have been “on the road” these past three weeks- partly for work with Freedom to Lead and partly some personal time of vacation. I’ve got another week to go.

I started in Senegal for a day of meetings with members of my West Africa team to think and plan and dream a little. Then I made my way over to Kenya (no small journey, this continent is huge!) for a week of facilitating a module on “Spiritual Leadership.” Rich conversations with leaders from nine countries in east Africa. Very very special time. Soon I will share a video from that time.

Then I made my way up to Spain and Morocco for a week of vacation, passing through Cairo for the first time. It was one of those what-can-I-see-of-the-country-while-sprinting-through-the-airport kinds of trip. No view of the pyramids because a giant cloud of dust had blanketed the city. But I got to experience Spain, a country I never thought I’d enjoy as much as I did. And then Morocco was a whole new world. There, too, as I walked these cities, I was thinking and planning and dreaming.

Then I headed south back to Senegal. We just finished up a week with leaders from 21 different countries from this part of the world to talk about “Mentoring.”. As with most of these times I’ve been blown away. Our brother from India has also been here to help facilitate and that has been an absolute joy to see India and Africa merge for the first time in FTL history.

And today I am relocating to a different place in Senegal for one more week. Leaders from six different countries will be gathering to be developed as master trainers to take this thing beyond.

These are exciting times.

These are also uncertain times, I know. When I was woken up at 2 AM on Wednesday with my phone blowing up with news of this travel ban my fiat thought was, “well this is about to get real interesting.” Especially because *most roads to Africa pass through Europe.

But here’s the deal. I am still here and I plan to remain here. I am staying constantly updated with my airline and I am not concerned. Perhaps you think I should be, but I truly am not. Taking precautions, yes. I will probably be self-quarantined when I return, yes. But enjoying the people and cultures of this diverse family of God, also yes.

These are interesting times. Be at peace, friends.

Thank you for your concerns and prayers.

Until All Have Heard,

P.S. More pictures and stories from Kenya and Senegal will be coming in the next newsletter
