BIFD News

BIFD Executive had a discussion about how the COVID-19 virus might affect our Tuesday night dancing. At this time, we feel the local situation is stable and there has been no policy by the City of Burnaby directing community groups to discontinue meeting. We will continue dancing and reassess the situation week by week.

On March 17, we will have our St. Patrick's day all request party but without finger food. Our in-house band, The Pirates, will be playing. Please send your requests for recorded music to bifd@burnabyfolkdance.org.

Concerns over Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) prompt us to take these precautions:
  1. Please stay home if you are feeling unwell.
  2. Please stay home if you have recently traveled to affected areas (China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Iran, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Japan).
  3. We will be asking everyone to wash their hands before dancing, at break time, and after dancing.
  4. Hand sanitizers will be available.
  5. If you don’t want to hold hands, dance behind the line.
The Lyrids committee met last night and sadly agreed to cancel the Lyrids Folk Dance Festival 2020. However, we are only pressing the pause button. Same teachers, same band will be here April 23-25, 2021. Dancers registered for Lyrids Festival will receive a message with more information.

Do you like the Lyrids Festival Shop? Jane will not run the shop in 2021. Are you interested in taking over the reins? Contact Jane. Thank you Jane for organizing a fabulous festival shop for our first 6 years of festivals! Although Jane's shop was amazing, there are many ways to run a shop, and you can run it however you like.

Make sure to scan this newsletter for activities and events you might be interested in, and send in any announcements you would like to share with the other dancers to newsletter@burnabyfolkdance.org

Please direct suggestions and feedback to the contact form on the website, or directly to the club email.

Party starts at 7:30pm and runs to 10:00pm.  There is a $15 donation requested.

The Squalicum Yacht club is the smaller of the two Yacht Clubs side by side on S. Harbor Loop Drive. (South Harbor Loop Drive is connected in a circle with North Harbor Loop Drive.)

How to get there:

From the North, go South on I-5, take the Meridian Street Exit and turn right. From Meridian, take the 3rd right (2nd traffic light) onto Squalicum Way. Follow Squalicum Way and it will merge onto Roeder Street. Shortly thereafter, there will be signs for Squalicum Harbor and Coho Way. Take a right onto Coho Way. The very first possible right turn which is identified with a street sign "N. Harbor Loop Drive", take that right and at the end of that very short road you are in a parking lot. If you would turn left you will see the Squalicum Yacht Club in front of you.

From the South, you can take Holly Street through town to "F" Street. Turn left onto F street toward the water and across the train tracks to Roeder. Turn right onto Roeder Ave Continue on Roeder to Coho Way (City Mac Store) Turn Left onto Coho Way. The first possible right is "N. Harbor Loop Drive". Take that right and drive that short "road" to the end, and turn left into the parking Lot. The small building in front of you is the Squalicum Yacht Club.
