To our valued membership,

I'm writing to update you on the Junior League of Baton Rouge’s response to the threat of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).  We remain committed to keeping members, staff, partners, and supporters healthy and safe. To that end, we continue to monitor recommendations and alerts from the Centers for Disease Control and the state and local government officials.

In light of the recent developments, the League’s Board of Directors met to assess the League's upcoming activities and events. After much thoughtful discussion and consideration of the potential impact of Coronavirus on our community, and out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to suspend all in-person volunteer activities, events, and meetings until March 31.

We will continue to monitor and to evaluate available information, recognizing that this timeframe could be extended as state guidance evolves. Up to date information can be found at Coronavirus Updates & Information. Continue to pay close attention to emails and social media from the League, as they may contain specific information from League leaders relative to the Coronavirus situation.

In the event you have a question relating to your individual circumstances, please contact me at president@juniorleaguebr.org

Specifically:

  • Membership dues and RRR dues extended to April 30, 2020. Please know that this extension does not mean you have to wait until April 30, 2020. If you need to implement a payment plan for your dues, please contact our Financial Vice President, Renee Trimble, at reneetrimble.jlbr@gmail.com
  • Touch A Truck (March 21) is postponed.
  • Council meetings (week of March 16) are cancelled.
  • New Member Informational Meeting (March 31) is moved to a virtual meeting.
  • Member Social Event at Main Event (March 28) is cancelled.
  • Training meetings (scheduled for various times) are cancelled.
  • Volunteer shifts at all community projects will be cancelled, with League leadership to communicate with our partners on ways that we can continue to provide support even if our members are not physically present.
  • JLBR Headquarters will be closed to volunteer activities, events, and meetings, with any scheduled meetings held virtually (via audio or video conference).Groups should not re-gather at another location. Whenpossible, League members may continue their work virtually. But to be very clear, we expect your primary focus to be taking care of yourself and your family.
  • Nominations for Membership Awards has been extended to 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

Please know that these decisions were not taken lightly, and many factors were considered.  However, health and safety remain our top priority. For now, please do not worry about placement credits. We do not know how long this situation will last and all the ways it might impact us. We will communicate when we know more.

We are grateful to and appreciative of the hard work of our members and your understanding as we grapple with an unprecedented situation.  You are each integral to the work of the League. We want to do our part to proactively ensure your well-being as well as that of the greater Baton Rouge community.

I would be remiss if I did not especially acknowledge the work of our Touch a Truck Committee, led by Michelle Smith.  This group of women has worked tirelessly for 12 months to plan a stellar event, and the disappointment surrounding the event cancellation is palpable.  Please take a moment to show your appreciation and support of them. We are looking at options to reschedule the event for a later date.

Over the past few days, I’ve thought about our mission, as League members, to serve Baton Rouge. Right now, this means taking actions to protect each other and the community we hold so dear. It’s times like this when we will come together to show the best of who we are.

 Yours In Service ,

Namisha Patel-Vasanji
