Decatur Makers COVID-19 Policies
Effective March 14, 2020

Decatur Makers is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation. As concerns continue to grow, the health, safety, and well-being of our community are our top priorities.  Decatur Makers remains open and operational with appropriate measures to protect the health of our community. Erring on the side of caution, all group gatherings and classes have been cancelled through the end of March; As additional information and recommendations become available from state and federal public health authorities, we will adjust our plans as needed.

Our Board and Staff are following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and are taking a number of actions to ensure the ongoing health and well-being of our entire community including:

  • Wash Hands Often: Encouraging our community to wash hands with soap as they enter the makerspace and as they leave; Soap and sanitizing gel are available for community use in the break room and bathroom.

  • Practice Social Distancing: Maintain a distance of at least 3 feet from other makers at all times. Do not shake hands, just wave and smile :)

  • Follow Good Respiratory Hygiene: Encouraging our community to cover their mouth and nose with a bent elbow or a tissue when they cough or sneeze.

  • Don’t Feel Well? Stay Home: Anyone with symptoms of any illness is requested to remain at home. We already know you are able to handle tools and other dangerous things, use the same judgement with your health.

  • Clean Equipment Before and After Use: Asking our community to help with daily cleanings of all equipment and accessories as they use them including goggles, helmets, tables, laptops, etc.

  • We’re Open But No Staff, No Gatherings: Access to the makerspace for our members remains 24/7, but, through the end of March, our staff will not be on-site and we have cancelled all events including our Open Build Nights, Family Build Night, all gatherings and classes, and all our youth outreach programs. For a comprehensive list, visit our MeetUp calendar of events at https://www.meetup.com/Decatur-Makers/events/calendar/

We'll provide further updates as things evolve. Thank you for your continued support and know we are keeping a specific focus on the safety of everyone, so makers can keep on making cool projects and learning new things while staying healthy!

With warm regards,
The Decatur Makers team
