The seventh annual Lyrids Folk Dance Festival will now be April 23-25, 2021!
So much has changed in the last few weeks! We have come to the difficult decision to cancel this year's festival. However, we are happy to report that we are merely pressing the pause button. Maurits and Tineke, and Osem i Devet with Miamon Miller will be our featured teachers and band in April 2021. Band will be organized by Michael Lawson; band members could be different depending on availability.

The festival on the weekend of April 23-25, 2021, will feature Tineke and Maurits van Geel teaching Armenian and Roma dances from different countries (Maurits has done extensive research) mixed with some international top hits. Website will be kept up-to-date as details change. |

We are looking at reserving this location again. The location is the Peretz Centre, 6184 Ash Street, Vancouver, BC. To prevent crowding, each workshop is limited to 100 dancers.

Price may increase. 2021 fees will be decided in January 2021. Price for the entire 2020 weekend was set at $200 or US$160 before March 1, rising to $215 or US$175 after that. Part-time available after March 1. See Price List. Reduced fees for work exchange, youth (up to 30 yrs) and elders (80+).
Registration will open in January 2021. There is no attendance limit for the Saturday party.

The following will all be true for 2021, except for the Festival Shop. Jane is retiring from running the Festival Shop. For a festival shop to exist in 2021, we need an organizer! Are you interesting in taking over the reins? Contact Jane. Thank you Jane for organizing a fabulous festival shop for our first 6 years of festivals! Although Jane's shop was amazing, there are many ways to run a shop, and you can run it however you like.
Billeting in local dancers' homes is available. Apply on registration form. Be aware, all homes are more than a 40 minute drive from the hall.
Are you local? We need more dancers willing to host visitors. Please contact Bev if you have beds available in your house. Thanks!
Volunteers needed!
- We need some people to help out (~ 5 hrs during the weekend) at the festival - register for a work-exchange scholarship (check that option on the registration form) and get in for half price! See fees here
- Another option is to help exclusively. Experience the vibe of the festival, take photographs, help at the registration desk, help serving snacks, and/or help at the festival shop as needed. This would cost you nothing, you would get meals, and you might be able to do some of the dancing during quiet moments. Contact us.

Details on Syllabus, Video and Music
This will all be the same, I think. I changed some dates.
- Syllabus: The syllabus of the dances taught at the festival will be available after the festival, as Tineke and Maurits want to retain the ability to choose the dances to teach during the festival from a long list of dances. The link to the digital syllabus can be pre-ordered for $5 on the registration form, or purchased on the weekend.
- Video: Online movies of the dances taught at the festival will be available right after the festival. The link to these movies will cost $20. Available for purchase on the weekend.
- Music: A CD of the long list of dances will be available for purchase on the weekend for $25.
- Festival DVDs: As usual, the 2019 Festival DVD will be available for purchase on the weekend. The 2021 Festival DVD, which will be available in April 2022, can be pre-ordered on the registration form. Tineke and Maurits will be receiving $10 per pre-order. A big thank-you to Maurits and Tineke for allowing us to video record them - a rare opportunity!

Michael Lawson will organize the band in 2021, but band members may change.
Osem i Devet with Miamon with musicians Michael Lawson on accordion, David Bilides on tupan, Miamon Miller on violin, Janie Cowan on bass, and Teodora Dimitrova & Dina Trageser both singing, will provide live music for the Saturday evening party.
Miamon and Michael will also be leading music (any instrument) and singing workshops on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

But wait, there's more! This is all postponed to 2021, obviously - similar dates.
- Tuesday, April 21, 7-10pm, Maurits & Tineke van Geel will do a dance workshop at Burnaby International Folk Dancing at Charles Rummel Community Centre, 3630 Lozells Ave, Burnaby. Admission: $10 drop-in, or $5 for members of Burnaby IFD and Surrey IFD.
- Thursday, April 23, 7-10pm, Maurits & Tineke van Geel will do a dance workshop at Surrey International Folk Dancing at Walnut Road Elementary School, 16152 82 Ave, Surrey. Admission: $10 drop-in, or $5 for members of Burnaby IFD and Surrey IFD.
- Sunday, April 26, after the festival, Maurits & Tineke will be at the Sunday evening dinner/dance at Dale's house in Surrey. Admission is by donation (suggest $10 each). RSVP. Limited to approximately 40 people.
