Addressing the Health and Safety Concerns of Our Community During the Covid-19 Crisis

Dear colleagues, clients and friends,

Amid this time of anxiety and uncertainty, The New Beginnings Center is attending to the ways in which we may continue to provide excellent mental health care to our clients, while also protecting the physical well-being of our clients and staff.

The very nature of somatic therapy benefits from some of the same interpersonal contact that currently puts individuals at risk of infection. This means that we must balance the needs of our clients and staff with the reality of the current public health protocols.

Even though the way we socially interact will currently have some restraints, our focus remains on the mental and physical well-being of each person who enters our Center.

Each of us must pay attention to the needs of our minds and bodies as we work together to find ways that balance mental self-care with the recommended protocols from health authorities in order to stem the spread of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), particularly for those most vulnerable.

We are making every effort to be proactive, rather than reactive, and to create a response plan that respects each individual's own unique health care risks and limitations. We trust that through creativity and open communication we will find the best ways forward through this.

Here are steps we are taking:
  • We have collaborated with each of our practitioners to determine their availability to come in person to the Center and provide services or to provide services remotely via Zoom sessions.
  • At the Center, we will continue to regularly use disinfectants on common area hard surfaces and, of course, insist on thorough hand washing with soap and water along with the use of hand-sanitizer, upon entering, leaving and throughout the day.
  • Members of staff have been in communication with each IOP client to inquire about their individual concerns and, given the availability/limitations of each practitioner, determine together what is in everyone’s mutual best interests. (which could be a combination of some sessions via video conference and some, in person, at the Center)
  • Regarding Group Therapy, we want to respect the mutual well-being and needs of clients and facilitators and will offer group therapy in the large space in Suite R, adhering to social distancing guidelines, and/or a combination of offering group sessions online.
  • Clients experiencing any symptoms are asked to stay home and if able, can participate via Zoom sessions with their practitioner. Clients will not be penalized for missing sessions.
We will continue to monitor and make adjustments for any emerging needs and precautions to implement as they may occur.

We encourage all of us to be prudent not histrionic, mindful not hyper-vigilant, distancing not isolating, and to engage in scientifically recommended self-care practices. We welcome your input as we navigate this journey together.

Peace, Health and Safety to us all,

~The New Beginnings Center
