Message from our President

Dear fellow Rotarians,

As you will have seen from the letter I sent you earlier this week from ClubRunner, we have decided to cancel our 'non-essential' meetings on Tuesday nights. We have had a number of speakers pull out anyway and with the further upgraded restrictions being imposed by Scott Morrison this seems a highly proactive thing to have done.

Please do stay in contact with one another and particularly our senior members. I am also working on the possibility of having some e-meetings using Zoom at some point if things continue to remain dire. More about that in a week or two.

In the meantime, please continue to practice good hygiene and follow the advice from the government and chief medical officer until we have control of this very frustrating pandemic.

Stephen Miller
President 2019/20, Lane Cove Rotary Club

Pride of Workmanship Awards

Sadly due to Covid-19, we have also had no alternative but to withdraw from this event. We are hugely disappointed as a lot of work has been put into its organisation. Hopefully, if things improve we may be able;e to look at rescheduling for later in the year.

Can you help?

Dijana Dragicevich from NSW Health has written to the club see if anyone can assist her. If you can please contact her directly.

Dijana writes:
I am a current PhD student working at Royal North Shore Hospital. I am investigating swallowing difficulties in stroke patients to better help Speech Pathologists treat people who can’t eat and drink following a stroke. I am having some trouble recruiting older people for my healthy participant study. I need healthy people to come into RNSH for a study to establish norms so that they can be compared to people who have swallowing difficulties following a stroke. It takes about 30 minutes and I can provide a parking voucher. Any help would be so gratefully appreciated!
Many thanks
Dijana

Scribe report – 10 March 2020

President Stephen opened the meeting with a warm welcome to the Guest Speaker former Superintendent NSW Police, Maria Rusja

Silvio Gmur reported on the Leadership Training Course held over two previous Saturday’s at Beecroft which he hailed a great success as it provided a deeper insight into the Rotary Foundation and the mechanism of both local and international grants.

The highlight of the evening was a very insightful and emotional presentation by our Guest Speaker Maria Rusja. Maria is a 37 year veteran of the NSW Police Force. Her knowledge and expertise eventually led her to the position as Commander of the Child Abuse Squad for NSW – State Crime Command. Besides being an accomplished speaker we found this snapshot into her career while harrowing at times – due to the difficult subject matter – thoroughly fascinating and clearly demonstrated what a remarkable person Maria is.

20 People attended tonight’s Meeting which closed at 8.40 pm.
