Dear friends
As people around the world face the consequences of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to outline the steps we are taking at Sarum College to ensure our students, guests and staff are safe and healthy.
All the College’s public areas are open, and healthy people are welcome to use our bookshop, library and refectory as normal. We continue to review this in line with government guidance.
Sarum College staff follow strict hygiene protocols. We have reinforced the rules and practices of good personal hygiene with all staff and we have posted NHS information around the building to remind guests and visitors of good hygiene practice.
There are hand sanitisers and tissues throughout our buildings to help people comply with the NHS advice to ‘catch it, kill it, bin it’ if they need to sneeze.
Our kitchen has an excellent five star food hygiene rating. Our cleaning regime has been reinforced in line with the latest World Health Organisation guidelines.
We are conducting regular cleaning and sanitising of public contact points in the building such as door handles, reception counters and meeting rooms. We also have enhanced cleaning procedures for guest rooms.
It is with very great regret that we have suspended our provision of learning over the next three months or so here at Sarum College. In the light of ongoing advice from government we believe it would be unwise to gather people together for learning.
All short courses therefore are suspended until the end of June 2020. You will understand that this is a significant decision that will have a major effect on our work but we believe it is in all our best interests.
We continue to welcome guests for private stays. For those needing a base to visit loved ones at Salisbury District Hospital is less than two miles away – a seven minute drive and 11 minutes by bus.
Our bookshop is open and accepting orders. We are happy to post your order without charge for postage. We are reviewing opening hours, however, and will update the public with any changes to our service.
The library is open as usual and we aim to keep it open as long as possible. Those who are feeling well are welcome to study in the library. Those who do so are asked to apply hand santiser before using the library computers (and indeed on Reception coming into College). Desks are wiped down regularly, as are door handles and surfaces throughout the building. Returned books are quarantined and wiped before being reshelved. We are looking at ways to increase the delivery of online learning for our courses and also developing new content to help people deal with isolation and anxiety. We are also mindful of the ways we can help our local community and so hope to redeployed staff where possible to help people in practical ways.
Those of you who have already paid for courses may wish us to hold onto that money for another course later in the year, or consider turning it into a donation to the College.
We regret having to make this decision but hope you will understand the necessity for it. Please keep in touch with us, as we will with you.
