West Berkshire PCF March 2020 Newsletter

Hi Everybody,

Wow, what a month this has been so far, and what a worrying time for everyone. For the foreseeable future the Forum have taken the decision to no longer physically meet for our Steering Group, or attend any meetings with any services. However we are still carrying on and will be still be available to services virtually.
Please do read the letter below from our Forum Chair Dawn Baxendale.

What have we been up to?
SEND Strategy Meetings

In February we attended several meetings with the Local Authority, Health and local short break providers.

SEND Information Day

Due to government advice we have cancelled this event, but hope to re-schedule for later during the year.

SAP Survey

The Sap Survey has now finished and the results will be out by the end of the month. These results will be available to view and comment on on our FB Page and will be sent out via email. We will also be sending the results in to the Local Authority to view and comment.

What Else?

Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus impact, we have had to cancel all of our upcoming events. We will be continuing to work virtually with our local services, and hope to resume organising physical events as soon as we can.

Wonderful things are happening for SEND in West Berkshire, and we are proud to be part of the changes happening, but your voices and opinions count, so please do fill in the odd survey, and join us to enhance the future for our children.

Swings & Smiles Update

In terms of what we are getting up to at Swings & Smiles we will be remaining open (albeit in a more limited fashion) until we are told that we have to close or our staffing numbers make this impossible.

There will be no April timetable issued and parents will be advised when and what sessions there will be available towards the end of this week.

Anything that runs from the centre will be limited in terms of time, availability and numbers of families in the centre at anyone time.

We also hope to be offering additional online support for parents and are currently exploring how we may also be able to meet the needs of those families that are unable to get out and to the centre.

Hopefully in the coming weeks we will start to understand what the long term impact of this will be and start looking forward to some normality again.

For any queries about the above. please contact laura@swingsandsmiles.co.uk

Parenting Special Children have cancelled all March and early April workshops, courses and community support groups from immediate effect due to the latest UK government guidelines - 'everyone in the UK should avoid "non-essential" travel and contact with others to curb Coronavirus'

If you booked via Eventbrite you will receive notification of cancellation and be given a full refund.

We will reassess the situation, in line with UK government guidelines at the end of the Easter Holidays.

Meanwhile our Helpline will still be open from Monday - Thursday 10am to 2.30pm

Answerphone messages will be picked up daily

Emails will be answered with information and support needed.

There might be a slightly longer response time on these

We are planning to offer Pre and Post workshops via webinars to enable parents who missed the last in the series of Pre and Post workshops, Autism & Behaviour & ADHD & Behaviour.  We also plan to offer the next series (planned for after the Easter holidays) via webinars if we are unable to deliver face to face workshops.

We will be ensuring that families who normally attend the Greenham Parent/carer Support Group will continue to be supported via WhatsApp, phone and email.

The Sleep Service will be available via email sleep@parentingspecialchildren.co.uk and 01189863532 for sleep support.  We are also looking at providing sleep webinars to offer support during this time.
