Flick of the Week Logo (with screen and projector)
While our physical space is closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we here at the Old Greenbelt Theatre remain committed as ever to serving our community through film programming and education.

Join us in a digital space for our first ever "Flick of the Week" designed to keep you connected to film and to the OGT community while we self-isolate and practice social distancing.

Here's how it works:
  1. Click here to register for the Flick of the Week ($10)
  2. You'll receive an email with our suggested Flick of the Week, with a list of where you can find the film online. This may require a subscription to a service such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Kanopy or others. We know many will be investing in these services over the coming month, and we will do our best to select films available on multiple platforms and rotate through platforms each week. This week's film can be found on Hulu, Hoopla, and Kanopy.
  3. You'll be invited to a private Facebook group, where you can discuss the film with OGT's staff and your fellow OGT supporters.
Every week while we are closed, we will have a new recommendation to share with you and a new discussion group you can join. Registration will be $10 each week you wish to receive our Flick of the Week recommendation.

Your registration fee helps us cover the tremendous loss of income we are experiencing while remaining closed, so that we can continue to pay our staff, cover expenses we can't cut, and ensure we're ready to go as soon as we are able to re-open.

We're parents too. We're feeling the pinch of keeping kids home and safe, but also needing to give them something to do.

Introducing "Virtual Connections for OGT Kids." Every week, we'll curate a list of YouTube videos to engage your kids in some aspect of film, along with an activity they can do (alone or with your help).

This week, we're curating a list of the very best experimental animation available on YouTube, along with a craft to introduce basic concepts of how film and animation work.

Here's how it works:
  1. Click here to register. Registration is free, but we suggest a donation of $5 per family to support this program.
  2. On Thursday morning, you'll receive an email with a YouTube playlist and instructions on how to complete the craft.
  3. We'd love for you to take photo or video of the end result of your craft. Please tag Old Greenbelt Theatre on social media if you share with friends, or you can send them to kelly@greenbelttheatre.org!
Stay tuned every week for a new Virtual Connection for all of our OGT kids. We hope to provide more OGT Kids programming as the weeks go on.

Our regular Monday Matinees series brings you vintage Hollywood classics at 1 pm on the first Monday of every month. During this strange time of social distancing, we're inviting you to watch a classic every week, and share a phone call with OGT staff and community every Monday at 1 pm.

This week's film is To Catch a Thief (1955)
starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly.

Here's how it works:
  1. Watch the film on Amazon (free viewing for Prime members) or on YouTube for $2.99.
  2. Join us Monday, March 23 at 1:00 pm for a conference call to discuss the film. Executive Director Caitlin McGrath will give an intro, then we'll open it up to a Q&A session like we'd do in the theater.
Conference Call Line:
Dial-in Number: (605) 468-8856
Access code: 646435#

Participation is free. You may register to receive
a reminder of the call on Monday morning.

When you register, you may provide an optional donation to help cover the tremendous loss of income we are experiencing while remaining closed, so that we can continue to pay our staff, cover expenses we can't cut, and ensure we're ready to go as soon as we are able to re-open.

Stay tuned for more!
At OGT, we remain as committed as ever to serving our community. We are offering these three programs to kick off a temporary phase of online programming to keep educating, entertaining, and connecting our community in these difficult times.

Continue to monitor your inbox every Tuesday afternoon for the upcoming week's Flick of the Week, Monday Matinee, Virtual Connections, and more for the whole family.
A Note from Our Team

Since the Friends of Greenbelt Theatre reopened the Old Greenbelt Theatre on May 1, 2015, we have prided ourselves on never going a day without showing a movie. We’ve been there through snow days, every Federal holiday, a major renovation, and all the quiet normal days in between. It’s not some sort of stunt to keep a streak going, it’s because we love what we do and are committed to being here as a resource for the community.

This closure marks the first time we haven't been able to show movies, but that doesn't change our commitment to our community. As you can see in the efforts above, we want to continue to find ways to provide our community with education, entertainment, and connections, especially at this trying time.

We offer the above programs for continuing our role in providing you excellent film experiences, and we hope you'll consider registering and donating to support those efforts. If you'd like to do more, here are some ways you can help OGT out:

  1. Renew your membership now. Whether your membership is active or expired, memberships always provide you with 12 months of moviegoing magic. Your renewal today extends your current membership by 12 months, and helps us to weather this storm.
  2. Make a donation to cover the trips you would normally make to the movies. We set up a special page where you can donate the amount you would be spending on a trip to the movies; just a ticket, ticket and concessions, date night, or family night. You can also sign up to donate the cost of a ticket each week.
  3. Share the above programming with a friend. While we can only share moviegoing experiences with our surrounding community, this digital programming can be shared across the country. With closures happening across the globe, share our curated Flick of the Week with a friend and ask them to support OGT too.
We know you love OGT and will miss visiting our theater, but we hope to continue providing opportunities for engagement and moviegoing online. Your support will make that possible.

We know you love our staff, the faces you see every time you come to the movies. We want to make sure they are supported financially through this closure. Your support will make that possible.

We want to be ready to be operational the moment we hear we can reopen. Your support will make that possible.

Thank you to everyone who has already given so generously already. We're grateful to all of you and hope to see you soon at the movies!
