Windber Kitchen & COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

WINDBER KITCHEN NOTICE CONCERNING COVID-19 (Coronavirus): Windber Area Community Kitchen will continue in it mission to meet the needs of the community especially during this time of uncertainty.  We are closely monitoring the fluid situation concerning the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic and will be following any recommendations handed down by local, county or federal agency.  We will be taking a different approach to how we serve our community.  Starting on Saturday March 21st WE WILL BE PROVIDING A MEAL, however, it will be to go.  We are working with our volunteers to ensure we are taking the appropriate measures in following the CDC recommendations when it comes to personal hygiene and how we operate.

BACKPACK PROGRAM, WACKPacks: We normally operate this program through the Windber Area School District when students are in school.  Last week we provided meals as regularly scheduled for the four-day break.  Even though the school district is shut down, we will continue to make available WACKPacks to the students who are on the program.  Parents are more than welcome to come to Windber Area Community Kitchen located in Windber Calvary UMC on 1800 Stockholm Ave. Friday March 20th & Friday March 27th from 3pm-6pm to receive your child’s pack.  We understand there are many other students that could benefit from these meals.  We are working on getting more product from our partner out of Pittsburgh and we are expecting a delivery on Monday March 23rd.  We do have product on hand and will be making these accessible to any student who is enrolled in the Windber Area School District Friday March 20th & Friday March 27th from 3pm-6pm.

VOLUNTEER NOTICE: We appreciate all our volunteers.  We are asking if anyone wants to volunteer for the meal on the 21st and/or pack WACKPacks on March 21st, you are more than welcome to join us and to be here at Windber Calvary UMC at 2pm. Because many of our guests and volunteers are elderly or may have underline conditions, we are letting you know to please not volunteer if you are sick.  We will be practicing the guidelines set forth by the CDC (Overall Hygiene and Hand Hygiene, social distancing etc. etc.)

MOVING FORWARD: As we continue to monitor the situation, we will be deciding on how we move forward.  As it stands now our vendor who we get our products from for Saturday meals is still operating.  We are looking to provide meals during the week from March 23-27 from 3pm-6pm please check back on Facebook for further updates. We will be making these meals to go. We will need volunteers during this week and would like to invite those that are looking for something to do to join us.  We ask that you please be patient with us as we work through this together.  The office hours will be still normal (11am-4pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday), but if we are not here to answer your call concerning questions please leave a short message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

DONATIONS: If you would like to donate to the Windber Kitchen, we are looking for monetary donations.
