Dear GRPS Parent/Guardian(s),
Once again, we want to thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we continue to work through this fluid and ever-changing situation related to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The following is a list of current and new updates:
- (NEW) Grand Rapids Board of Education meetings canceled: All Grand Rapids Board of Education meetings, work sessions, and committee meetings are canceled until further notice.
- (UPDATED) Updating emergency contact information: The district will be sending out a step-by-step guide in English and Spanish for parent/guardian(s) to update contact information and language preference through ParentVUE. Parent/guardians(s) who have questions about updating their emergency contact information may contact 616-301-1111 or email communications@grps.org.
- Spring Break: GRPS is closed until Sunday, April 12. This includes the mandated statewide closure of all public and private schools until Sunday, April 5 AND the GRPS Spring Break closure scheduled between Friday, April 3 and Sunday, April 12. This may be subject to change pending alternate direction from the state.
- Last Day of School: The last day of the school year is currently planned for Wednesday, June 3, but may be subject to change. We are waiting for information and direction from the state regarding student instructional time and contact hours.
- (UPDATED) Central Office Hours: Central office will be closed to the public starting Tuesday, March 17 until Sunday, April 12. This may be subject to change.
- (UPDATED) Final Temporary School Access Monday Only: After 8:00pm tonight, schools and central office will be closed with no staff access, except for those otherwise designated. This is subject to change based on extenuating circumstances.
- (NEW) Individualized Education Program (IEP) Compliance: At this time, all annual IEPs and 3-year re-evaluations are on hold until school resumes.
- (UPDATED) Nutrition Service Meal Sites: GRPS is expanding the number of “grab and go” meal sites. Starting Tuesday, March 17, there will be a total of eight grab and go meal sites. The sites will be open daily, Monday through Friday, from 11:30am to 12:30pm. The meals will be a breakfast/lunch combo and are available for all students 18 years of age and younger. This includes students with disabilities ages 18-26 with an active individual education program (IEP). The meals are not limited to GRPS students.

- Ottawa Hills High School (2055 Rosewood SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506)
- San Juan Diego Academy (1650 Godfrey Ave SW, Wyoming, MI 49509)
- Sibley Elementary (943 Sibley St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504)
- (NEW) Walnut Grove Apartments (875 Sheffield St. SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503).
- These are subject to change and additional meal sites may be added.
- Resources for Students/Parents: Resources for remote student learning enrichment opportunities are being developed. We anticipate these resources will be communicated by Wednesday.
- Future Communications/Updates: Parent/guardian(s) should plan to monitor e-mails, text messages, phone calls, social media, and/or the district website for future communications and updates. If you have questions or concerns, please contact 616-301-1111 or email communications@grps.org.
