ORIGINAL WEB SERIES SET HERE IN THE BAY!

The pilot episode for an online regional comedy series written by Mt Maunganui, writer Alyssa Stringfellow was recently shot and is currently in post production. Alyssa also stars in the series as Chloe, a woman who just can’t seem to sort out her chaotic life. She is joined by some well-known faces including bass guitarist, Chris Mac from Six60 and Luci Hare from the television series Mean Mums and Auckward Love, Tauranga based actress Cassandra Woodhouse and Mount based Tom Paterson who came second on Survivor Nicaragua.

The cast and crew of 47 were made up of local talent and put together with the help of Film Bay of Plenty. It’s the first time a regional series has been proposed for the Mount Maunganui and the Production team hope to have the pilot online by the end of May.

The shoot was supported by Priority One and shot over three days at Papamoa Beach, Mt Maunganui, Tauranga Airport and the Millenium Hotel, Rotorua. Film Bay of Plenty says they are delighted at the support shown by local and regional busineses and also at the professionalism and expertise of local cast and crew.

A message from Rosalie: Being in lockdown for weeks for me means finally getting long stretches of uninterrupted writing. I'm keen to turn that into stories for screenplays comedies, documentaries, dramas and web series. If anyone would like to join me with generating ideas and working on writing projects together, please let me know, as I'll be hosting regular writing sessions online and intend developing some clear writing goals we can work on.

CONGRATS TO THE FILMMAKERS SELECTED FOR FILMUP 2020

In this difficult time we have some good news. Script to Screen is proud to be welcoming eight filmmakers to our 2020 FilmUp Mentorship Programme which will continue during level 4 lockdown.

FilmUp is our high-end development programme for writers, directors and producers who have already shown considerable talent and tenacity in their work. It is a highly competitive programme with eight participants being selected from the 82 applications received.

Each participant is matched with a filmmaker mentor and will participate in a series of Hub days that include round tables, workshops, and group work as part of the eight-month programme that is tailored to their individual needs.

Script to Screen wants to help keep the screen community connected by continuing our programmes in adapted formats as we maintain physical distancing. Our FilmUp participants can communicate with their mentors remotely and the first FilmUp Hub will be held online. The remainder of the Hubs will be adjusted as needed when the time nears.

A huge congratulations Cian Elyse White a  Writer/Director from Rotorua for making the cut!

ANIMATION PRODUCTION STILL GOING STRONG DESPITE COVID 19 CRISIS

As Hollywood production has ground to a halt over the escalating COVID-19 pandemic, there is one area that been able to keep the lights on for the most part — animation.

As new episodes of “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers” and more just this past weekend made it to air, many animated series are still in production, with their creative teams working in sync from home. And voiceover jobs are among the very few opportunities for actors right now, as many in that field have recording facilities in their own home.
