Dear friend,
I hope this message finds you safe and hopeful during these extraordinary times. Like everyone else, Perfectly Flawed is preparing for the weeks and months ahead. Now, more than ever, is a time for caring, kindness and safety and it begins directly within our communities.

We will be doing our part to encourage a message of hope and positivity and we encourage you to do the same.

As stewards of public health, we will continue to monitor the public health response related to COVID-19. Perfectly Flawed is taking steps to provide a safe working environment for our staff and to ensure community safety.

We have taken the following steps:
  • We have closed our office starting today, Monday, March 16 until March 31st. During this period, staff will be working remotely with all meetings conducted by phone or video conference to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
  • You can reach us directly via call or text at 815-830-8675 or by emailing team@perfectlyflawed.org.  If you have an emergency, please call 911.
  • We will not be having our in-person support groups during this time however we are looking into remote options and will provide further details.
  • Our upcoming events which include which Earth Day Community Cleanup, IVAC Business After hours, and Derby Party are currently on hold or postponed.  We will provide updates on rescheduling in the weeks ahead.

By its nature, anxieties and fears have increased in this uncertain and rapidly changing period. Physical isolation can lead to increased loneliness and depression in our most vulnerable population, and at this time among ANY population.

We encourage social interaction but with physical distancing.  Pick up the phone, use video chat.  Call your Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, friends and family.  Be kind and positive on social media.  We are ALL in this together!

People are understandably anxious. Try the following:
  • Exercise helps to reduce anxiety, so take a walk or run up and down your stairs to burn off some energy.
  • Clean, organize and use the time to get caught up on projects at home.
  • Try to limit your news exposure, watch COVID-19 briefings once a day, or select a time to catch up (or not) on the news.  If it makes you more anxious stop watching/reading the news.
  • Practice meditation.  There are many free programs that provide mindfulness and meditation on YouTube, phone apps and other platforms.
  • Phone a friend. Sometimes just speaking about our anxieties or hearing a friendly voice can make everything better!
  • Try comedies, something funny, something relaxing or something familiar.  Watch a favorite show. Re-read a favorite book. Listen to a favorite podcast!!
We understand it can be easy to overly rely on drinking or other drug use when boredom and loneliness set in, so try the following:
  • Be safe. If you don’t feel you can abstain from using substances please practice harm reduction – no matter if it is alcohol, coffee, cannabis or any other drug. Less is MORE.
  • If you drink, practice moderation management.  Make a plan to limit intoxication. Stagger you days in between drinking.
  • Set time limits on when you drink/use substances.
  • If you need help, reach out.

We must unite to ensure the best outcomes for our community, for Illinois and for the United States. Most importantly, we must remain calm and recognize the precautionary measures are in place so we can get back to our normal lives sooner rather than later.

We care about your health and will be distributing online resources over the next weeks. We will get through this and Perfectly Flawed will be there to help.

In Community,
