During this very uneasy, unfamiliar time, we are trusting that the funds will be made available to continue our very necessary work in the community. As always we are here to offer the best standard of palliative care and support. This is only made possible with the ongoing financial and volunteer support of those who have a special interest in the merit of our services.

Knysna Sedgefield Hospice and Covid-19

Knysna Sedgefield Hospice takes caring for the patients in our community very seriously. To this end we are implementing some protective measures.

Since gathering in large crowds is prohibited, we have postponed our Mega Book Sale, Pezula Golf Tournament and Sedgefield fun run. These are events that we have been looking forward to and we enjoy hosting. In the case of the Sedge fun run we have put a lot effort into launching this new event. We will let you know as soon as we are able to, what the new dates will be. I hope you can make the changed date.
We are closing our weekly day care for patients and thank the volunteers who help us provide soup and sandwiches for our grateful patients.
Our training schedule has been interrupted

We anticipate a greater need for help in every area as our finances are impacted and as we go into social-isolation but let us make it physical-isolation instead with social-solidarity.

All admin staff that are able to are working from home. At the building, we have taken all the precautions and measures to ensure our staff are protected as far as possible.

Each year, we commemorate World Tuberculosis (TB) Day on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.

TB remains the world’s deadliest infectious killer. Each day, over 4000 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30,000 people fall ill
with this preventable and curable disease. Global efforts to combat TB have saved an estimated 58 million lives since the year 2000. To accelerate the TB response in countries to reach targets – Heads of State came together and made strong commitments to end TB at the first-ever UN High Level Meeting in September 2018.

Under the theme ‘It’s Time’, the spotlight this year is on urgently accelerating the TB response to save lives and end suffering, building on high level commitments by Heads of State at the 2018 UN High-Level Meeting on TB.
