Temporary College Closure
Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: College Closure

 It is with regret that I have had to take the difficult decision to close the College, with effect from Wednesday 18th March 2020. This affects all students in all year groups and also includes any students that attend our partner schools or any off-site alternative provision.

In recent weeks I have ensured that the College has followed all health guidance from the Local Authority, from Health England and the Government and my intention was to remain open until we were advised otherwise. Unfortunately, due to having a significant number of absent staff I am not in a position to continue to guarantee the safety of the students and therefore I am unable to keep the College open. This closure is a temporary measure and will be in effect up to and including 20th March 2020 in the first instance. We will be in contact before 23rd March 2020 to confirm what arrangements will be in place for next week.

I am aware that this difficult decision affects all of our students and affects you as parents and carers. I am also acutely aware that the lead up to examinations is a particularly crucial time for our Year 11 and Year 13 learners. With that in mind we have made the some arrangements for students to be learning at home;

Year 12 and 13

Subject teachers for all A Level and BTEC subjects have now ensured that all students have access to online resources via Google Classroom or that they know where to find resources on the SJH website. Teachers will either be using Google Classroom to upload resources or will update the homework section of our website (www.sjhcsc.co.uk/students/homework). Students studying courses at one of our partner schools will be unable to attend these lessons and should therefore communicate via email with their subject teachers for additional work/revision materials. All students retaking their GCSE qualifications can continue to learn and revise by using Hegarty for Maths or by accessing resources on our website for English.

Year 11

Parents of Year 11 students will be sent revision packs containing resources to support them to revise at home. The pack will be in the post soon and will contain a letter, revision guides, cue cards, paper, pens, and an exercise book. All students have already been provided with subject revision guides and logins for online learning platforms (such as GCSEpod/Hegarty/Tassomai). Additional information will be in the letter with regard to login support for online learning platforms and additional resources that are on our website. Students are able to access further revision guidance through our website: http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/students/key-stage-4/revision.

Years 7-10

Students should use the homework link on the College website to access and complete homework tasks in each subject area: http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/students/homework. Online platforms are also available to be used in Maths (Hegarty) and in Science (Tassomai) which students should continue to access daily. GCSE students should take the opportunity to work through revision guides where they have been provided, create their own revision materials such as mind-maps, practise exam questions, and read set texts. Students are able to access further revision guidance through our website: http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/students/key-stage-4/revision.

Due to the College being closed we will be unable to answer any incoming phone calls. We will however periodically be checking any messages that we receive through our ‘contact us’ form on our website: http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/contact-us. If you have an urgent enquiry then please use this facility.

I understand that we all face significant health uncertainties at this time and I urge you all to take care of yourselves and your families by keeping up to date with all health advice being given out by the government, Health England and the NHS. I wish you all the best and look forward to the College reopening as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J Bevan
Principal
