Dear Dancers,

I hope you are all well and are using this unusual time off to get some rest and enjoy some family time.
As you know by know, we are closed until early April but wanted to share with you some amazing stories of dance. Knowing dance history is a great way to connect to the dances you love and understand what drives a dance forward. Below are a couple of great stories in dance you can watch for free on youtube or watch on Netflix.

Our Last Tango: view for free on youtube
Tells the story of Argentina's most famous Tango dancers, Maria Nieves Rego and Juan Carlos Copes. I had the pleasure of seeing them dance live at the Detroits Fox Theatre in 1988 and they were the most amazing Tango couple I have ever seen. Our last Tango tells an amazing story of the dance and the survival of Argentine tango.

Baby Ballroom: view on Netflix
Follows young dancers and their training path to ballroom dance compition. It is a wonderful documentary of the competitive ballroom dance world and the process that young dancers go through to get to the top.

Never Stop Swingin, Frankie Manning, view free on youtube
This is an amazing story of the history of swing and how swing has survived for nearly a century. Swing is an American made dance by young dancers at the Savoy Ballroom in the late 1920's and a great story to of how one dance helped bring different races together on the dance floor for the first time. In the movie, Swing Kids (you may need to purchase this on Amazon to watch), it tells the story of how young people used swing dance as a way of protest against Hitler and now today, swing continues to dance us through change as we learn about transgender awareness, swing continues to give society a voice and is a healthy way to  help our young people to have an opportunity to express. Please note the movie Swing Kids should be viewed by parent first.

I hope you enjoy some movie time, any questions, please don't hesitate to call.

See you on the dance floor soon.
Joyce
