As the world adjusts to COVID-19, we observe tremendous resilience and adaptation. This is more than just going on-line for work and school, itself an unprecedented feat of adaptive cooperation. Young people have put down phones to explore outdoors and make art (see seclusion-inspired painting below). Neighbors are planning their first garden. Communities are "social distancing" together in creative ways. We are anticipating the needs of the most vulnerable and working to meet them.
This is an uncertain environment where we all learn new things by the hour. We are proving our resilience and capacity for change.
Heraclitus, a late 6th Century BC philosopher, wrote: "You cannot step twice into the same river." An ancient reminder that few places prepare us for change more than our waters. Although present times are uncertain, our streams and rivers still flow. And the LRWP will continue the work of monitoring them.
The LRWP is recruiting volunteers to help us gather data about our waters during Summer 2020. Stream walking and catching samples - the work of water quality monitoring - is a time for respite and renewal. And the data gathered tells us about changing conditions and helps us understand and adapt to these changes. Will you join us in our monitoring work?
