Further details on the session:
Although the government has a strategy to increase exports from 30% to 35% of GDP, there is considerable evidence to suggest that a lack of foreign language skills is holding the UK back from reaching this target.  This talk explores some of the opportunities and pitfalls of doing business internationally from a language perspective, and explores the factors that organisations need to consider when thinking about their international communications – in particular, challenging the assumption that relying on English is enough.  Given current circumstances, this session also incorporates a particular consideration on the additional challenges of virtual communication, which although particularly pertinent in an international setting, also applies to the situation in which many businesses currently find themselves with their domestic partners.

About Dr Natalie Wilmot
Dr. Natalie Wilmot joined the University of Bradford in September 2019 as the MBA Director.  Prior to her academic career, she spent a number of years in the private sector, working in a range of international organisations both small and large, which sparked her interest in the role that language plays in international business activities.  In this talk she will draw on her own professional experience, as well as her academic research in this area, in order to suggest practical solutions for organisations who are looking to develop their international activities.

We look forward to welcoming you

Further opportunities for the KTN:

So you may be reflecting on what is happening with your business in the current environment, evaluating future opportunities and looking for some fresh perspective?

We have the below opportunities which may be of interest to:
  • Offer a live business project to a final year student to review any aspect of your business…this could be a project that you haven’t had the time or expertise to explore yet.  These projects are delivered by our final year students, supported by an academic lead at no cost to your business.   These projects are being sourced now for September 2020 start.  If this is something you wish to consider please email ktnetworks@bradford.ac.uk for more information
  • Did you know that your business could benefit from a 95% Government contribution towards the Bradford Senior Leader Master's Degree (MBA)? The Senior Leader Master’s Degree (SLMDA) is part of the apprenticeship programme for which our MBA is accredited. The funds have only recently been released. There are 5,000 funded places available nationally from the beginning of March 2020 and again at the beginning of April 2020 which we think the KTN could take advantage of.  The  conditions for the funding are:
    • Your organisation must be a non-levy payer which means you have less than a £3m salary bill.
    • You or your nominated employee(s) must be available to start in April 2020.
    • Individuals applying for the programme must have 8 years leadership/management experience or have a first degree with 3 years professional experience.  This is considered on a case by case basis.
    • You must meet the application deadline of Friday 10th April 2020 to be considered.
If you wish to find out more on the SLDMA, please contact Craig Johnson, Senior Lecturer, on 01274 234347 or c.l.johnson@bradford.ac.uk
