Chiefly Speaking

Brothers,

Let me give my best wishes to everyone as we go through this difficult time. As we practice social distancing, virtual school, and hand washing, lets not forget who we are. We are the brotherhood of cheerful service and our actions can help uplift each other in this stressful time. Be the light to others closest to you and together we can get through this. To ensure the utmost safety of our members, the Section Comms Retreat and conclave onsite have been rescheduled. However, we are more committed than ever to support the three lodges of our section. We encourage lodges and chapters to reach out to those who are isolated in this time of need and welcome lodges to talk to us on how to best serve their members.

Yours in Brotherhood,

James Verheyden
2020 Section W-1S Chief
Restrictions from COVID-19 have caused the cancellation of many Scouting events across the nation through at least the end of April. We have created a page on our website with updates regarding COVID-19 and event cancellations around the section.

Check the section calendar for upcoming events that are still scheduled.

Arrowmen have a unique opportunity to explore one of the BSA's four high adventure bases through OA High Adventure. With five different programs, Arrowmen spend half of the adventure providing cheerful service to the base and surrounding areas and the other half on a customized trek. These programs are a fraction of the cost of a normal trek. Scholarships are available from the section and region. Learn more here
The section is working on a brand new training for lodges and chapters officers to help them Adapt to face challenges, Collaborate with others, and Thrive to become high-performing lodges and chapters. The ACT conference will be held on August 21-22 in Eugene Oregon. All lodge officers chapter officers, and their advisers are expected to join the conference.

Lo La'Qam Geela Update

Brothers, I hope that all of you are staying home and staying safe at this trying time. Down south in our lodge, we have been forced to cancel our spring fellowship event due to COVID-19, although we remain optimistic about other events. All are welcome at our events (except Vigil weekend) and I hope to meet as many Arrowmen as possible at each of them.

Yours in Service.

Tsisqan Update

Hello Everyone!

Tsisqan gives you all a warm welcome nearing the end of the month. As the 2020 lodge chief, I wanted to push out a message to you all. As you all know, the recent circumstances regarding COVID-19 has made Scouting difficult this past month. I understand what is happening and am here to remind you all that we must continue as Scouts and Scouters no matter what is in front of us. Rain flies exist on our tents to ensure we stay dry while the weather isn’t perfect. Work on the merit badges you need for your ranks past First Class, finish that eagle project plan (I know I should), and if it comes to it use the emergency preparedness kit our families have made. Stay connected with your unit, stock up on what you need, and stay home. I hope to see a lot of you at NOAC this year and I can’t wait for this all to pass so we can continue what is the source of joy in many of our lives.

Yours in Service,

Dustin Graves
