Welcome to our Easter newsletter

In these uncertain and worrying times, the Easter holidays seem to have taken a back seat. Please take time to read our latest newsletter. We need your support now more than ever before.

We've launched an Easter colouring competition to help with the boredom of the Covid-19 isolation and to raise much needed funds for local families who are now more vulnerable than ever. Find out how you can help below.

We hope you stay safe and well over the coming months and enjoy some quiet, family time.
We need your help
Please support our Easter colouring campaign

As a small charity, we are going to be struggling to keep afloat without our usual fundraising activities.

We won’t get through the Coronavirus crisis without your help.

Download one or both of our colouring sheets, get creative and send us a picture of your completed masterpieces. You can either choose to simply colour, or transform the blank egg into your favourite character, or invent a character of your own.

Please help us by making a small donation to our Virgin Money Giving Easter campaign. Even £1 will help!

We’ll be choosing our favourite picture and the winner will receive a delicious chocolate Easter egg (thanks to a kind donation from Tesco).

Share your pictures with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and email a copy to admin@careforkidsnorthdevon.org.uk. We will choose a winner on Friday 10 April.

If you don't have children but would like to help, please make a donation below. We really need your help.

What's coming up...
Bideford Bike Show 2020
We've been selected as one of the chosen charities to benefit from this year's Bideford Bike Show. Due to the current crisis the event has been postponed until Saturday 29 August.

It looks like it will be a brilliant event for all the family, with lots to see and do - music, entertainment and food as well as bikes.

Keep an eye on our social media pages for more information.
Barnstaple 10k 2020

We've been busy planning and promoting our fourth Care for Kids 10k, which takes place on Sunday 5 July.

This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and without it, our small charity would struggle to meet the needs of the families who reach out to us for support.

We will be following government guidance over the coming months. If we have to reschedule or, in the worst instance, cancel our run we will let everyone know as soon as we can.

In the meantime, please sign up and start your training!

Great North Run 2020
We have filled our charity places again and can't wait to have another team running for us at the World's largest half marathon event in September.

Our Care for Kids runners are Becky Brennan, Kim Kendall, Sarah Pile, Jodie Wilson and Marie Dunphy. Good luck with your training ladies!

Massive thanks to our recent fundraising stars

  • Melanie Packard, who kindly asked for donations to Care for Kids at her daughter Natasha's funeral. This amounted to over £400.
  • Kayleigh Drew, who ran the Bideford half marathon last month and raised over £600 for her efforts.
  • Corinne Cameron and her family, who raised over £400 through a series of bake sales.
Without your amazing efforts, we wouldn't be able to support so many families in North Devon. Thank you, and keep up the good work everyone!

Andrew's English Channel challenge

Introducing Andrew Butler - another of our incredible fundraising stars!

Andrew is training for a solo channel swim in June and has a fundraising target of £8,000 - can you help by sponsoring him?

Andrew is raising money for Care for Kids, Ronald McDonald House in Bristol, Kidney Research UK and The North Devon Wave Project.

Here's Andrew's story: “During 2017, my son and daughter-in-law gave birth to a beautiful girl Rosie; within a week their world was turned upside down! In brief Rosie was born with a life threatening condition needing specialist treatment at Bristol hospital. In order to keep her alive, Rosie had both kidneys removed within a week. Since then she has endured numerous operations and treatments, in and out of intensive care. Rosie’s initial seven months were spent at Bristol children’s hospital. Witnessing their journey became a catalyst to support organisations and charities that contributed towards enabling glimpses of stability at this traumatic time."

Head over the Andrew's Virgin Giving Page to find out more about his incredible challenge and if you can spare a pound or two, please sponsor his amazing efforts.

Good luck Andrew!

Our latest project at Caroline Thorpe ward

Our project to transform another bedroom on the Caroline Thorpe children's ward at NDDH is picking up pace.

All the funding is in now place, thanks to our local councillors at Torridge and North Devon councils and the Morrisons Foundation.

We are working with our local designers to draw up plans for the room. Having already chosen the colour scheme, we're now we're picking out some art to brighten up the blank walls.

We'll update you as soon as work starts, so watch this space.

And finally...

We rely on our volunteers and fundraisers. If you'd like to help us grow, there  are many ways you can get involved. If you don't have much time to spare, just sharing our posts on social media makes a massive difference to our success.
