COVID-19 & THE NJFS

With recitals and concerts being cancelled, we want to invite you all to show us what you've been working on and we will share it to our NJFS community. It can be anything from a solo and ensemble piece you prepared, a piece you prepared for an audition/recital, or a piece you have been playing for fun. We will be sharing these virtual performances on our Facebook Page - NJFluteSociety If you are interested, please email us your videos/links to videos at flutesocietynewjersey@gmail.com OR post your video online and use our hashtag #NJFSVirtualPerformances and we will repost it on our page. Follow and Like our page to see what our wonderful New Jersey flute community is up to!

Here are some tips and tricks to help your self-quarantine, from our NJFS board!

  • Go outside for a walk, while practicing social distancing!

  • Learn something new! (Draw, sew, write/journal, cook, color, dismantle something, etc)

  • Write letters/cards to your friends and family!

  • Give yourself an at-home spa day! Face mask, mani/pedi, bubble bath with candles, etc.. Here are some homemade face masks you can try!

  • Print out your favorite pictures from your photo albums and create a photo wall or collage

  • Stay active and exercise! The Peloton app is offering a 90-day free trial for workouts at home. Or support your local studios and see if they are offering online classes!

  • Meditate! Try using apps like Headspace or Calm to find techniques to get started!
  • Try a crossword puzzle like this one made by NJFS board member Carla Auld!

  • Read a book. You can keep track of books you’ve read and been wanting to read on GoodReads. Based on what you’ve read and what genres you’re interested in, it recommends books for you to read! You can also encourage your friends to make accounts and see what they’ve been reading.

  • Have virtual happy hours or weekend hangouts! Using Zoom is a fun way to stay in touch with your friends. You can try different backgrounds and pretend you are on a tropical island while catching up with friends!

  • Try new recipes. Bon appetit has a YouTube channel that shows easy recipes to follow!

  • Play chamber music with yourself or friends by using the Acapella app

  • Watch past live-stream performances! Berlin Phil live streams, Met Opera broadcasts, and 7 day trial of BroadwayHD

  • Regroup, recuperate and regenerate...

If you have any ideas you would like to share, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to serving our community in any way we can!
