Quinte Youth for Christ Prayer Letter

April, 2020

Update:  Please clink on encouraging message for our partners from YFC Canada

From Colin Leaver - Executive Director

The times, they are a changin'! The Lord has given us a new territory for ministry: virtual. Although we had some experience before, now we have no choice but to live and ministry virtually, and it comes with challenges and victories. We need your prayer in challenges like: distractions of working at home, limited contact with youth, keeping good boundaries, event and fundraiser cancellations. The victories we thank God for are: increased prayer time and increased need for faith, new creative outreach opportunities, and new emphasis on partner communications. Read through the rest of our teams prayer items for details on how you can pray.

**You can also join us for a partner prayer call event with QYU (YFC) this FRIDAY APRIL 3rd at 10am on Zoom meeting ID
https://zoom.us/j/9057120577. We implore you to spend your time at home wisely by doing ministry in prayer with us!

The following are the ways our staff are reaching out and we appreciate your prayers for God to use these methods to bring hope to our youth in these troubling times.  Please pray for our staff for adjustments being at home and juggling work and family.  Peace and patience in these difficult times and a supernatural love to stir them on to good deeds. Oh yes and to even be more tech savvy!

We have noticed that through our social media efforts others are joining in or following us.  For this we Praise the Lord and request your prayers for greater outreach.

Eli Verkuyl – Student Outreach Ministries

I am connecting with youth through;

1. an online response game reaching 75 students
2. A phone call each week to my core students in discipleship
3. A live online Bible Study.

Ben McEwen – Student Outreach Ministries

Prayer requests; I'm planning to meet with teens and help temper anxiety through some zoom chats. Were going to play some trivia games, and share some online funny videos.

Mike Fuller – Brighton Beacon

The Covid-19 virus scare has shut down The Beacon at the same time as the schools were shut down. It would have been irresponsible for us to do anything different.  Though The Beacon is closed, our volunteers and prayer warriors haven’t stopped caring. The level of trust they have built up with the teenagers of Brighton isn’t something to squander away or something that can quickly be erased. I continue to have contact with some of the youth and a revived Facebook site will become a forum for teens to voice their feelings and joys and hurts as this pandemic carries on. Many of them trust us now, after months and years of exposure to us through the good times. Now with that earned trust, we hope to be there for them through these isolated times.  Social media should give us that opportunity.

Andrew MacKay – Associate Director & Quinte Youth Centre

As Covid-19 moves into Canada we are finding ourselves isolated in hour own homes, but our minis hasn’t stopped. Our ministry has moved onto the internet. I’m currently acting as a judge in a two week long challenge we are calling coronalympics. Students are being given challenges and asked to use their phones to either film them or take pictures to document their progress. It’s currently being offered for students in Prince Edward County, but we are planning on bringing it to the rest of Quite. Please pray that we will continue to see God’s direction for us as we explore new ways of sharing the hope and joy of Jesus in these Unprecedented times.

Mike Wilson – Graphic Word

Please pray for more youth to join our video game Tuesday’s at 2pm on Xbox One where we chat about life and faith.

Also pray for our Thursday RPG & Me group that meet online to play a premade campaign. That we would continue to build into this virtual community and create a sense of unity in the midst of separation.

Rikki-Anne – Performing Arts

Thank you so much for holding up our students in prayer. Please pray for our Spirit Borne teens as they are learning to give their disappointments and discouragement to God and choosing to share the hope they have.

The performing arts ministry is connecting with children and youth in our programs through weekley eNewsletters, prayer groups, virtual bible studies.

Please pray for creativity in communication, the spread of the hope we have in Christ and joy in the circumstances for our students!

Dear Prayer Partners Thank you so much for doing the GREATER WORK of YFC!
