Here's the latest news about the local effort for the ILC in Tohoku (northeastern Japan)
 
MEXT Minister: “I’d like to continue to work hard” towards realization of ILC
At the budget committee working meeting at the House of Representatives on February 25th, Hagiuda Koichi, minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) said, “In order for Japan to become the host of the ILC, it is important that Europe and the US evaluate us (to be suited to the project). I’d like to continue to work hard.” Including the recent announcement of the government’s view of the project at the ICFA meeting in the United States, this showed the government’s stance that it would push forth discussions with various countries.

A vegetable project to welcome the ILC

In 2013, the mayor of Ichinoseki City wandered the markets of Ferney-Voltaire, in Eastern France, and came across a variety of vegetables that he had never seen before; with the artichoke leaving the biggest impression. He asked how it’s eaten and was told that the ‘petals’ can be munched on, much like a snack.

Oshu – A city reaching out to the world with science

In April 2019, humankind took its first photograph of a black hole. One of the facilities that greatly contributed to that project was the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan in Mizusawa, a district in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture.

In this issue, the researchers at NAOJ Mizusawa have helped us out to put together an article on the 120 years of history and achievements of the facility since its founding, as well as the various projects it’s working on currently.
