Support Fairtrade

#StayHomeLiveFair

We are in a situation where we find ourselves with much less control and choice than we had previously. But there are things we do still have control over. What we buy, what we eat and drink, what we use around the home.

We can still support Fairtrade farmers in poor countries, we can still support ecologically sustainable ways of farming, we can still keep social justice close to our hearts.

Local independent wholefood shops around London are still open for business and some are doing home deliveries for those who cannot leave the house.

Now is the time for us all to come together and demonstrate the resilience of Fairtrade supply networks.

Traidcraft staff

Online shopping options

Longstanding Fairtrade pioneer Traidcraft are still delivering a wide range of products, from staples like rice and pasta, to treats like chocolate and biscuits, to olive oil, tea and coffee. They have a whole section of lovely Easter presents for adults and children.

Ethical Superstore are a one-stop online ethical supermarket, probably with shorter delivery times than the mainstream supermarkets at this time. Their range includes most Fairtrade staples, but also household products, pet supplies, children's toys, and so on.

Snack Bar News

Tropical Wholefoods have created a meal-replacement snack bar which could come in useful if you're under the weather.

Each bar is nutritionally complete and delivers 1/6th of the recommended daily allowance of calories, protein & carbohydrate.

For each box sold, Tropical Wholefoods will donate a second box to a food bank, soup kitchen or shelter for the homeless.

Home schooling?

There are some great resources and activities on Fairtrade for young people that work just as well at home as in the classroom.

Check out the home learning page on Fairtrade Schools. It includes Guardians of the Rainforest, an uplifting short film from Fairtrade Foundation and Trading Visions that tells the story of the cocoa farmers of the Gola Rainforest in Sierra Leone.

Divine Poetry Competition

A lovely home activity for children and adults alike is to enter the Divine Chocolate and Christian Aid National Poetry Competition. Get your creative juices flowing and write a poem!

The theme is 'Where does the chocolate journey begin?' and this year's judging panel is led by children's author Onjali Rauf.

Prizes include a film of your poem being read by Onjali Rauf, book tokens and lots of Divine chocolate!

Stay Safe!

Nduzani from Kasinthula Sugar Cane Growers in Malawi, who was in the UK a few weeks ago touring for Fairtrade Fortnight, sends a message from Malawi:

"Stay safe and well and wash your hands every five minutes!"
