WRFC and Covid-19 Virus
As you have seen, the Government and the RFU continue to release guidance regarding measures needed to be taken to reduce the effect of Coronavirus. The clubs Executive Committee have met to discuss our responsibilities and the actions that we need to take.
As well as the suspension of all rugby activities, the Executive Committee has decided, with immediate effect, to close the clubhouse (including the gym) to protect our staff, volunteers, members, and visitors. We need to play our part in the battle to reduce the impact of this virus.
Please take care of yourselves during this difficult period, and we look forward to seeing you all back at the Club as soon as possible.

RFU Covid-19 Announcement
RFU Confirmed that Season 2019/20 is now Closed
In order to provide clarity and to assist with immediate and longer term planning, the RFU is today announcing the end of the 2019/20 rugby season for all league, cup and county rugby in England. The only exception to this is the Gallagher Premiership, who we are in active discussions with to review possible best next steps.

Legacy Fund
The club has now paid to the council the £68,000 + vat to secure a new 60 year lease with the discount that is in operation already. The pitch license has been tied into the new lease agreement . This new lease agreement secures the financial sustainability of the club going forward into the future.
The Exec committee is now preparing a list of items which we will now need to raise money for to finish off and further improve our new clubhouse. I think we all agree that we now have some of the best rugby facilities in the south east of the country but we want to continue to improve the facilities with projects such as a bbq terraced area or maybe a spectator stand.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those that made a contribution to the Legacy Fund. It has truly been a great effort from many many members.

Passing of Noel Kelleway
It is with deep sadness that we have to announce that Noel died on Tuesday 3 March after a short illness.
Noel was synonymous with Westcliff RFC for over fifty years, having first played for the club while still at Westcliff High School, where he was a giant on the rugby field, representing Essex, Eastern Counties and London Counties.
Noel played for the club 1st XV for nearly two decades, showing his incredible versatility by occupying positions as diverse as prop forward, hooker, back row and centre, playing with alacrity wherever he was required.
He skippered the club in 1977-78 and was a mainstay of the Magnificent Seven, during a golden age when countless sevens trophies found their way back to The Gables. Noel also served as club secretary and treasurer, and was a life-long supporter off the field, sponsoring many club lunches either in partnership with Ian Francis or individually, and was a highly-respected senior Vice President.
Outside of the club, Noel was heavily involved for many years with the Old Westcliffian Association, of which he was president, and was well-known figure around the borough, raising large amounts for good causes by dint of his marathon running, which he still undertook until recently. He was also a respected senior partner at Rickard Keen Chartered Accountants, with whom he enjoyed a successful career. Our sympathies are extended to Sheila, Rachel, James and Sarah at this sad time, and respect their request to be allowed a short time to reflect in private. The club owes a huge debt to Noel, and we will miss him and his presence greatly.
