Effective March 17th, the Johnston Partnership will be operating under new procedures to inhibit the spread of Covid-19.

As always, we ask that any staff or volunteers stay home if sick. Just like school, you need to be fever free and 24 hours removed from any symptoms before coming to the pantry.

We continue to clean as we always have, as we do have high traffic volume in our small space. All surfaces that are regularly touched - door handles, grocery carts, the bathroom, etc. will be cleaned at the end of the pantry day. We have hand sanitizer, hand soap and paper towels on hand, and encourage regular breaks for anyone who touches food to wash hands.

The Johnston Partnership will operate our Food Pantry with a paper order form. After placing an order, clients will be asked to wait in their vehicles or outside while it is being completed. Call/email ahead orders are also welcome, using the forms found on our website. Email orders to andrea@johnstonpartnership.org or call in at 515-528-2379 or 515-868-1357. Staff & volunteers will be the only ones allowed inside the pantry. Staff will be the only ones with any client contact, as food pantry volunteers will be pulling orders, stocking and organizing as always. Anytime items will be pre-bagged and distributed according to family size.

Our clothing room will be closed until further notice, as there will be no safe way to operate that space. If you have donations, we ask that you hold them until at least April 14th.

Our newly-formed Benevolence Fund will still be accessible. This is open to those who live within the Johnston School District boundaries, and it does require a short application/interview process. We are able to assist with financial needs such as rental assistance, utility assistance or other emergency financial needs.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. It is critical that we find a way to stay open, as the needs around food insecurity will only increase when people are home for long periods of time. We will be open during our regular hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays 9am-1pm.

If you would like to help, we will still need volunteers! Sign up (or walk-in) at www.johnstonpartnership.org. Monetary donations go a lot further to help us fill ever changing needs. Click the DONATE button on our website!

We are still accepting food donations, personal care donations and monetary donations. Please click here to make a monetary donation. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

On March 2nd, the Johnston Partnership hosted a successful Johnston Chopped fundraiser at Hyperion Field Club. The event featured 3 local chefs who created a culinary masterpiece with foods typically found in a food pantry.  The finished products were then voted on by celebrity judges as well as one mystery judge selected by raffle from the crowd. Johnston Chopped also featured a wine pull and a silent auction. We have so many to thank:

  • Hyperion Field Club for opening up their facility for us
  • Megan Salois for being our amazing emcee
  • Chefs David Murphy, Jake Kim and Aaron Tolzmann as well as their sous chefs
  • Celebrity judges Karin Derry, Jim Duncan and Cyd Koehn
  • JHS Jazz Quintet for their entertainment
  • JHS volunteers working the coat check
  • Laura Kacer for announcing our mystery basket ingredients
  • Hy-Vee for donating our mystery items
  • Morgan Foldes for assisting in coordinating the event
  • Area business sponsors
  • JUMP staff for working the registration and check out tables
  • Area businesses and organizations for donating to our silent auction
  • Johnston Partnership Board for their endless work on this event
  • Johnston Partnership staff for all of their dedication to Johnston Chopped
  • All of you who purchased tickets and silent auction items!
  • Anyone we have missed!

Thank you to all!!

Congratulations to our 2020 Johnston Chopped winner, Jake Kim! Jake is the Culinary Director of Wasabi.

On February 21st, all local Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations donated a portion of their sales to the Johnston Partnership. We were so fortunate to receive a large donation as a result of this day! Thank you Tropical Smoothie Cafe and thank you to all who supported this local establishment!
JUMP MENTORS NEEDED!!

JUMP is a one-to-one mentoring program that facilitates one hour mentoring sessions between a member of the community and a Johnston student in grades 6-12 during the school day. Mentors act as positive role models who listen and help set goals while reinforcing basic skills, attitudes and other lessons in life. Mentors typically meet with their students one hour each week during the school day. Anyone who wants to get involved can fill out an application packet. For more information on how you can become a mentor in the Johnston Community School District, please contact Chris Wilson at 515.986.2007
